May 20 and no one around?
« on: May 20, 2011, 04:15:02 AM »
No one here??
Well this is not really fair because I'm on vacation...So I don't expect others on a week day morning. I thought this would be a good vacation to just hang out not make and solid plans. Did figure by now I'd have a bushel full of morrels. Been in the woods I think 4 time now couple days appart and no luck. Did talk to a friend last night that said he found some behind his house yesterday. So after running the wife to the store I'll head out this afternoon and see if I can find that first shroom.
As for my vacation? I burned a big pile of spring drift wood on my beach and put the dock in. There was more than the normal mess on the beach this spring, some from the september flood last fall, more from this spring. Just lots of brush logs and crap burned that big pile but there is twice as much left.
I got the annual river clean up to help with tomorrow (Saturday). Our rescue unit runs one of the many boat landing where folks drop stuff off. The river is still about 3 foot over normal here, but there will still be plenty of trash come into the landing. But people won't get up on the islands like they do in drier years. I haven't been out on the water myself in serveral years. I help out at the landing carrying things from the boats to the dumpster or sorting the things that can be recylced. Think I could probably stay cleaner picking stuff out of the river and off the islands with my boat. Working at the landing is as they say "A Dirty job!" but somebody's gotta do it and the dounuts and coffee are right there too.
If the sun stays out the boy and I are going to try to shoot some carp Sunday. If that plays out I'll post some pictures. Got get that smoker fired up if we stick some fish.
You all have a good day too.

Mac

Hey Mac , enjoy the time off.  Do what you want to do ( sounds like you are) , dont forget to do a little trap organizing for this fall, not too much , just  get your hands dirty as it will wash off saturday.   Lots of work here , getting bees up to snuff for the big nectar flow, and keeping bears away..  Planting garden  but more like a rice paddy with wet soil.  Asparagus and rhubarb growing  big guns.... outside, hen turkeys   (3) are setting on nests close to house.   Oh yea trying to cut grass if it drys enough

ewok  my honey do list is with real bees......they dont talk back or nag but if you get it wrong they sting....LOL...with all the rains, bees havent gotten out alot plus cold weather has hindered plants and trees pollen and nectar producing.

I did get the lawn mower going before the rains started. Got the front yard cut.Now I have to wait to plant grass.
Rhubarb is about ready to be made into some pies, a couple more days and I am going to cut it.
Now if I can find a dry day next week, we are going fishing.
Anyone start on an ark yet?

I was real surprised at how well it is doing, with such a horrible spring.
But those pies --alamode ,will be great.

Lee I built a heavy duty shelf in the garage for my totes of traps that was my spring trap project. I got the pile of totes so their shelved and not stacked. Funny thing is I still don't have any extra room in the garage. Go figure.
Still in sorry way with finding shroons, found only 3 real small greys yesterday. I'm starting to think this spot I've hunted for years has finally timed out????
weather didn't start out to bad for the river clean up today. I actaully went out on the water with a guy that came by hinmself with his boat. they like everyone to have at least two people in their boats so I rode with him. Worked from 8:00am till noon and only got rained on the last 15 minutes before we got back to the landing. I ended up with 3 pints of good 2 cycle outboard motor oil when my door prize number got drawn at the nooon lunch. So the day so far is a winner. I haven't decided yet if I'm going back to the landing for a couple of the many barrels brought in. Was thinking of setting a couple at the corner of the garage for rain barrels. Since we gone to the smaller raised box garden couple water barrels might mean no tape water on the garden all summer. Guess we'll see.

rhubarb has been ready here for 10 days or so- Lori has made at least 5 cakes over past week-

but me- I once as a kid ate way too much rhubarb pie, then got on the merry go round...needless to say, I lost my appetite for rhubarb, and its been 50 years since I had any more.

Hey Steve, if Lori has made five cakes in past week and you dont eat it , how come i didnt get any???    ::)  I made a upside down rhubarb cake for  my VFWs installation of officers sat evening of which i was installed as Post Surgeon.  I made a double batch cake, 9x13 and there was only  on serving left when i picked up my cake pan.  Im going to freeze rhubarb so i have some in winter.
