rem. 760 , took it all apart !!
« on: May 19, 2011, 11:20:41 AM »
The 760 270 I bought was real dirty on the inside. I stripped it all down and used brake cleaner on all the parts. The tube that has the locktite came loose after I heated the tube with my wifes hairdryer, too cool !!   The o' ring looked fine and I just oiled it and left it in place. The only  tricky part was getting the dust cover back in place.
If you have a 760 don't be afraid to take it all down to clean it , I'll do this one again in 20 years if I'm still kicking  !              FBC

Nice second generation 760.

Beware of the magazines manufacture by Remington and sold for the 760 Model 6, and Model 7600.  The darn things do not fit the older rifles properly.  I have had that problem with my 760 in 270 Winchester manufacture about 1954.  #2 brother has one in 300 Savage and has had the same problem.

I thought the problem I am having is unique, but hearing he was having the same issue tells me that Remington made some changes.  No idea if this affects the 760 second generation rifles.

Brother said he correct the problem with a file.  I might take my little rotary drill with a fine grinder tip and relieve some material.  The issue is not critical because I bought a second magazine a couple years after I got the rifle.

So give us the details on how to disassemble it.

I found all the info by doing a google search on rem 760 disassembly. The only tricky part on puting it back together is you have to slide the dust cover and the bolt back together at the same time.               hope this helps            FBC
