SB2 Firing Pin
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:05:20 AM »
Hi All,

Been trying to buy a new SB-2, F Pin without luck.  Numrich is out and Brownells has two listed.  Does anybody know which one if either is the right one at Brownells.  Part # would be greatly appreciated, or another source to buy the pin from would be great too.

thanks

Recent purchase from Brownells had their part number as  427-000-142 for the firing pin that fits the SB-2.

Thanks Tim, and now for the rest of the story.  The SB2 is a Buffalo Classic 45-70 by Wesson & Harrington so hopefully it is the same pin.

thanks

Tim,

T-bar is a new one from Brownells I just installed.  The T-bar spring will be a new one as soon as I order it, I thought it came with the T-Bar. :(  Hammer spring is a new Wolff xtra power.    Basically trying to rule out everything before coming to grips with a too deep rim cut.  The gun locks up so great as is I hate to think about cutting down the chamber end of the barrel and having to shim the pivot. :P  I played around with seating into the lands and crimping the jacket bullets but there is a pressure penalty to pay for that approach. :o

FWIW, the gun will fire everytime with Winchester large pistol regular/mag primers.  Taking that approach would limit my pressure issues since the primer would act as the "canary in the coal mine".     I think my FTFs with the 45-120 is because gcrank1 put a hex on me for loading smokeless powder instead of holy black. ;D

I'm thinkin a shim silver soldered into the rim cut would be the cure for that issue, drill a ~3/8 or 7/16"" hole in shim material slightly thinner than the thickness needed to eliminate the excess headspace, cut it to size then solder it into place, then gently needle file the shim ID to remove the excess material.

I have an extra t-bar spring, they're left over when installing a pre t-bar hammer.  ;D

Thanks again Tim!   I have a lesson coming up from another GBO member in how to silver solderer a shim.  Assuming I am still young enough to learn something new I will try your idea on the rim cut.   I hope a shim will work as I don't think my 450 AtlLaw Express Loads are compatitable with a Large Pistol Primer. :o

If you arent getting perforated primers they are OK, IMHO.
This new smokeless thing surely is a snakepit.....
