Glock 21 with a 10mm barrel
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:21:05 PM »
Ten or 15 years ago, I picked up a Glock 10mm 6" hunting barrel.  I believe I bought it through GSSF when I was a member in the 1990's.  But I packed it away and forgot about it for years. I don't remember if it was intended for a Glock 20 and/or Glock 21, but it mounts in my Glock 21 slide.

This weekend at a gun show, I pick up a Glock 20 magazine and a box of 10mm ammo.  When I got home, I did a cycle check and it seems to cycle OK.  Took it out and success!  It seem to shoot reliably.   I'll take it to the range sometime and do more extensive testing.

My Glock 21 is also a Ted Nugent "Wango Tango" 10mm!  ;D

Schuetzen,
Is that all that you had to do to make the conversion? You didn't have to change the recoil spring?

So far, the barrel swap and the use of the M20 magazine is all I have done.  I have only shot it 1/2 dozen times so far, but seems to cycle OK.  It did seem that the extracted cases were not thrown as far as the 45 ACP does normally.  Which actually may be a benefit.  ;D  I would like to try using an extractor from a M20.  I may try a different recoil spring sometime, but I don't have one right now.  Perhaps, I'll try ordering a recoil spring and extractor.

I have investigated the differences in the 10mm barrel and the 45 acp and noticed one other difference so far.  If you look at the top of your Glock with the slide closed there is a tab on the very rear of the top of the barrel (see picture).  The tab registers between the barrel and the slide.  I measured it with a set of calipers and they are different.  The 45 ACP measures ~0.480" and the 10mm is slightly smaller at ~0.425".  This may effect accuracy as the 10mm barrel has the slightest amount of play, side to side.  It also means that the M21 45ACP barrel will probably not mount in a M20 slide.

It also means that the M21 45ACP barrel will probably not mount in a M20 slide.

The larger case head of the .45 would not work with a mdl 20 breech face. The smaller case head of the .40/10mm seem to work ok in the mdl 21. I'd consider changing out the extractor when using the 10mm barrel if I were shooting a lot. It will be interesting to see how it shoots accuracy wise. Have fun!
