Rem 7600/7400 Mags
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:03:54 AM »
Can you use a 30-06 mag for a 308 rifle and a 7600 mag in a 7400 rifle?  I guess the bolt would just close on a empty chamber.

I've always used pumpgun mags in my autoloaders because the bolt will close on the last shot allowing for quicker reloading.

The actions on these rifles are of a uniform length, so the clips for one calibre will fit in a rifle chambered for another, however, I'd be hesitant to try to use clips for cartridges of different lengths.  The same clip for a .270 will work with a .280, 30-06 and .35 Whelen and vica versa, and likewise a .308 clip can work in a .243 rifle, but when the cartridge is shorter, Remington puts a spacer in the back of the mag.  Using a 30-06 clip in a .308 would allow the bullets to slide forward and back (with recoil) leading to jamming.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

7400,742,740,750 all take a different mag than a 706,7600. The 760/7600 doesn't have the bolt release, if you het a new mag for your rifle test it before you go in the field  with it, you may need to tweak it to get it feeding correctly

I had to tweek both of my magazines for my 7600. I have an all steel type and the newer style with the plastic bottom.

Those will work but I'm not a fan, visit gun shows and try to find the older version

Rick Teal has answered your questions as right , and as well as they could be answered ! Especially the tip on using 7600 mags for faster reloads in the autos . A piece of copper pipe makes a good bolt hold open , when cleaning , just cut it to fit in the action , about 2 1/2" works .
