Star B in 9mm C&R
« on: March 25, 2011, 02:13:59 PM »
And the C&R's just keep on showing up lately. I just received an email from aim surplus and there offering the star b in 9mm (ww2) for $399.99 with 1 8rd mag.   There offering a pre order so you don't miss out i guess.

I already have one in the orginal star box.                      CZY

Once upon a time I had one of these in 9mm Largo (it was stolen - only gun I've ever lost :().  It was a good gun, but the $399 price tag is a bit steep (I paid $150 for the Largo one back in 2004).  Basically handles about what it looks like - a 1911 9mm with no grip safety and a few other quirks (trigger "swings" instead of moves straight back).

Like i said before us C&R guys get ripped off price wise sometimes.  I remember when these were cheap. A few years back i paid $299 for a used CZ85DB in excellent condition in 9mm luger.  If you just want a pistol in 9mm luger the star b isn't cost effective.  I think there playing it safewith the pre order so they don't get stuck with them on the shelf at that price.  I did notice the prices comming down on there VZ 24's in 8mm but so is the condition too.  I say let them rot. I refuse to over pay, i'd rather do without it or just buy the modern guns.

My point is i'm at the cross roads when the price go higher on the c&r stuff wether to buy a C&R or just go used or new with the modern stuff.  I'm on the fence to fill a gap in my collection or pass on it. Afterall didn't the affordable C&R prices attract us in the first place?    I'm not cheap, i'm frugal.  I don't mind paying for a good steak dinner but when it comes to guns we do have choices right?

Glad I got one from Cole's @ the Knob Creek MG shoot a few years ago. Not quite as well finished as the one AIM has pictured, but for $200 it's a great shooter.

Your right what we passed up years ago were going to pay the price now if we want it.  I did start a spanish handgun collection anyway.  The astra's aren't purdy but they have that mack truck solid feel to them.  While the stars are clones to the 1911's design but on the smaller side.  The LLama's seem to be a real size 1911 clone because there larger in size and heavier too.

As MGMorden said, I recall when they were $149 not all that long ago.  $400?  That's steep, just my opinion, but I won't come close to paying that for a Star.

Your right, I only paid $299 for my used in unshot/excellent condition CZ85DB in 9mm luger in the orginal box with papers.  If anyone just wants a pistol in 9mm the CZ82 in 9mm mak for $219 is the way to go if there are any left around.  Please think about it before we buy anything. I had to get the moths out of the way in my wallet to purchase the walther P1.

The P1 is a good buy, I just wish I'd had the cash to buy one prior to them becoming C&R.  Two or three years ago they were about $100 cheaper.

I just got one of these Model B's from AIM, arrived today. Mine is 110% as good as the one pictured on the website. Matter of fact I have matching numbers on frame, barrel and slide. I requested one with nice wood grips (paid for hand-pick), and got one with nice wood grips.

All-in-all, just a sweet pistol from AIM.

Dave,

Glad you got a good one!

The ones I recall seeing a few years ago had not been refinished, showed the signs of use, but were only about $150.

I just hope this isn't a trend - to see used guns approaching the pricies of new firearms.  For $400 you could get a new 9mm - sure maybe not a SIG, but something.

I realize I could spend 400 on many new guns, but I rarely buy new guns. Matter of fact, of what I own perhaps 5 % was bought new..the rest is very useable but old.

I usually buy for pleasure (and sometimes investment value).

The lines and shape of the 1911 frame can be very addictive.

This is why i went back to the 1911's again and jumped off that ship to go after the new S&W revolvers at almost $500 off the list for new ones.  As the military surplus guns approach the prices of the new modern guns i may grab more newer guns than the surplus guns.  I don't really have what i want in the surplus department but what i really want is priced way too high for me.  I have the extra $$ but i'm just too dam frugal.  If we back up a few years i chose the 8mm semi auto egyptian hakim for $400 when none were to be seen or found over a $1,200  G43 german 8mm semi auto.  Again being frugal it bit me you know were. Then soon after a few accidents some had with the hakims the bottom fell out price wise on them too. Even the 41 johnsons were around $1,200 too.  But each year at the same gun show these were going up $1,000 and more every year since then.  The johnsons are close to gold now. But the handguns are starting to catch up too now certain ones like the broomhandles.  I passed these up when they were $300 and needed barrels.                                                             Bill

I hadn't looked at AIM's website in a few days, but it appear that the STAR B's must be gone already? I didn't see them listed anywhere.

Yep they're not listed anymore.  The Walther P1 listing is gone too.  They had been sold out for a while but I figured since they still had them listed but just as "sold out" that they might be expecting another shipment.  Oh well.  I"m sure something else interesting will surface soon.

the one i have isn't refinished and its in its orginal box.  I picked up the star b in 9mm and the star super in 9mm largo from the same seller a few years back.  I grabbed the astra 1921 / 400 in 9mm largo too that he had. I figured the astra 1921/400 would be a good mate to my astra 600/43 in 9mm. Back then chances of seeing these was slim to none. I'm just about done with my spanish pistols.  I wanted a LLama in 45acp but the prices are too high now. I can buy a new modern or a used 1911 for the cost of a llama.

I checked out Cole's tent at the Knob Creek machine gun shoot this weekend. They had a couple Star "B" pistols for $299. Didn't take a close look because I already have one, but they looked pretty good. If this thread has you interested in one you might give them a call. They don't show them on the website.
