sig p250 .45 doesnt shoot
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:54:31 PM »
Hello all,

I am the new owner of a p250 .45 compact and i couldn't be more unhappy. I bought this gun yesterday for $500 with the night sights and the p-rail. I was so happy to finally own a Sig. I took this gun to the range today with some friends who also have .45's. I loaded the mag up and chambered a round. First mag went great couldn't complain accept for the accuracy but that was because i have not adjusted sights yet and was going to at the range, also I'm sure i had something to do with it as i am not naive. Once the first mag was done i loaded the second. I put in the mag loaded a round and squeezed the trigger. Nothing happend, so i release the mag and cock the weapon to remove the round in the chamber. The round had a little dent on the primer as if it had not been struck hard enough. I put the mag back in and tried a diffrent ammo. (federal FMJ the first mag, and hornady HP's the second mag). I went to fire the weapon and nothing. When i pulled the trigger the hammer wouldn't mover.pulled the trigger again and same thing. I am aware that it is a DAO gun and the trigger needs time to reset i provided as much time. I have shot many DAO revolvers and am used to the trigger. pulled trigger again and the hammer still wouldn't move. Finally i pulled the trigger in rapid secession and the round fired. and chambered a new round. I squeezed the trigger again and it clicked. The firring pin did not strike the round hard enough yet again. I am very upset as i am looking at a $500 paper weight as i will not holster it and carry due to malfunctions.  I was going to use this as my new carry weapon as Sig's have to hell and back reliability.  any ideas what the problem is or how i should go about getting it fixed.

* also forgot to add that after the fringing didn't hit hard enough i took out the round chambered a new one. Then the hammer not moving happend again so i packed up the gun and left the range.

I am not familiar with this particular pistol, but isn't it one of the new "modular" guns with the firing mechanism removable as a unit from the frame?  I wonder if maybe it is not installed properly?  Does the gun require you work the slide to re-set the trigger / firing mechanism?  I'm sure others more familiar with the new Sigs will chime in.

Yes bigeasy it is one of the modular weapon systems. However that is not why i made the purchase. I had bought this because it fit amazing and comfortable in my hand. from my inspection which is not professional by any means but i do know some, the firing pin doesn't release to strike the primer fully. And the trigger resets on its way back to the original resting position. However its not like most were it resets mid route i don't thing it resets until the full distance is is traveled. I am open to any advice and hope more people will be chiming in. I am calling Sig tomorrow because they were not open today. I have heard good things about Sig's customer service and will post my results tomorrow. I am gonna see if they will accept the return and allow me to go to the 2022 in the .40cal. I will pay the difference in price or at least have Sig fix it i sold my old carry gun to a friend because i was buying this one. my old gun a glock 39 .45GAP which is an odd caliber. I wanted a true .45 that was a little bigger in my hand. I'm a pretty big guy and those subcompact glocks didn't fit well even with a shearer grip extension. SO hopefully Sig can correct this issue in a timely manor.

Hi, I am just courious if you have contacted Sig yet? Did they have a solution to the problem? I just recently bought a new P250 compact in .40 S&W. So far I have 200 rounds of 180gr fmj through it without a hicup and 26 rounds of 180gr XTP through it again no problem. Both are factory rounds. I would guess it is a malfunction of the weapon as my weapons seems to preform flawlessly so far. This is also my first SIG, I hope customer service is helpfull. One issue I ran into is the new vs old P250 problem. I went on a 100 mile trip to buy mags only to find out they were for the old model not the new. Thats what I get for not doing my homework. Here is the info if you are not aware.

From SIG website.
Notice: The P250 Compact grip module (grip plastic) for 9mm / .40S&W / .357SIG has changed to match other P250 grips (Compact .45 and all Full Size calibers). Design changes include the following:

- The accessory rail is changed from the curved style to a flat M1913 Picatinny style

- The grip texture features more aggressive stippling, and replaces the ridged texture featured on the front and back strap areas. This change took effect for new production in November 2009. The original grip style will no longer be available. This change impacts two accessory items

 Magazines

- The two grip types use different magazines

- The two magazines are NOT interchangeable.

- SIG SAUER will make both magazine types available to accommodate customer requirements.

Holsters

The original P250 Compact paddle retention holster will ONLY fit the original (curved rail) grip. The new M1913 accessory rail models will not fit this holster.

Two new holster models, one for P250 Full Size (all calibers) and one for P250 Compact (all calibers), are near completion and will be listed as soon as they are available. Downloadable information, with detailed images showing the differences between grips, are shown below. Please familiarize yourself with this information before ordering magazines or holsters for the P250 Compact (9mm, .40S&W, .357SIG) to ensure you select the right accessories for your pistol.

Download additional information below.

I am courious as to what the outcome will be please post.

I have a Sig P250 as well - One fire control unit and kits for 9mm FS, 9mm SC and .45 Compact. I shoot cast bullets almost exclusively. The .45 would not function with my 190-grain .45 semi-wadcutter as the slide would catch on the case or bullet, I'm not sure, but I also shoot a 228-grain round nose and I have not had a malfunction with that bullet over around 300 rounds so far. The 9mm (both configurations) have been flawless from the start and shot cast and some fmj bullets I ran through the FS.

On another forum, somebody had a problem with the hammer spring breaking on a P250, but that was after 3000 or so rounds and is not a common problem. I suspect that either that spring is bad or maybe your pistol is not going completely into battery and allowing the hammer to fall, but not hitting the primer with any force.

If it will make you feel any better, as and old wheelgun guy, the P250 is the most impressive shooting machine that I have ever used. It's like shooting a wheelgun double action with a 17-round cylinder.

Why all of the extreme emotion and panic about this pistol?   You got one that has a small manufacturing or assembling flaw from the factory, or maybe just a fleck of metal stuck in the firing mechanism.  Sig makes the finest handguns on the planet.   They will fix it.

I think the first thing I would have done was take it back to the dealer and let him deal with Sig. Mine would have taken care of sending it back and dealing with the company. I know this is a few weeks old, bit I to would be interested in the outcome. My 250 is the original, and I've had no issues (yet).
