Finally have a 30-30...sort of
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:34:33 AM »
I went to the National Gun Day show in Louisville last Saturday looking for a pistol caliber Handi.  I wanted one to donate at a deer hunt for disabled persons that I attend every fall.  Instead of pistol caliber, I found a barely used 30-30 with NT serial number.  In talking to the dealer, I mentioned what I was going to do with it.  He then offered to let me have it for $160!  Someone should be happy this fall!

I haven't shot it yet, and I'm kind of afraid to, as I feel honor bound to give it away.  Oh well.

I need to put inexpensive, reliable glass on this one.  Does anyone have the Tasco Pronghorn 4x mounted on a Handi?  How does it work (hammer clearance, etc?)

Thanks,
David

Yep doing the right thing and keeping your word is worth more than any good deal you were given. Think about the person that gets it, will prolly appreciate more than you ever could. Plus now that your gonna donate it, you will probably 3 or 4 more in the calibers you want.

CD,

If you want inexpensive glass might try to find a Norince 4x 40mm scope.  They are on gunbroker from time to time and usually can be bought NIB w/shipping of $30 to $35.  I have had 3 of these on guns as heavy as 12 ga sluggers and as light as 22LR.    I currently have one on a Handi 357 Maxi and it works well enough that I can shoot fox squirrels with the gun.

FWIW- I bought a Simmons 4X Shotgun scope with the triangle type reticle. Seems like a pretty decent scope for the money ($40.00). Compact. lots of eye relief and they had a 25% rebate promo that might be over but it paid for shipping. I'm thinking it might be a good candidate for a 30-30.

ditto on Simmons 4x shotgun scope.  Try Natchez or Midsouth for sales or refurbs.
