500 shorty pictures

500 shorty I got from bikerbeans. The stocks are some of the nicest looking Ive ever seen. They came off a fancy slug gun. Tiger stripes, very nice.

Dahhh? Which is da rifle and which is da scope ??? ???  Seriously, it is a sweet looking little rifle.  I'm looking at chopping my .500 and .445 to somewhere between 16.5 and 18 inches, so please keep us posted on performance.

I do like the double scope mounts.  I thought about doing that but never saw a picture of it.

but  if there were ever a need  for it............you have that need

that giant scope also will work  as a recoil reducer

we went and shot it today. its  very accurate gun even to 200 yards. Thats a 8x32x65 barska and thats the one i said has only needed one sighting in. Maybe the double rings hav helped there. It sure makes my old eye feel gooood. we only shot 20 rounds and then used it the rest of the afternoon as the spotting gun/scope. its funny you called it a mortar cw, because thats what we call it 'the mortar'. the 500 is always everyones favorite.  It sure felt good to get out and shoot, this winters been too long. Glad you guys liked it.

I have a 500 and have thought about having it cut off a little, but really don't see the advantages. The performance is so terrific at 22". I think accuracy and performance might suffer.

If you have a hack saw, bench vice, drill and a little skill, you can cut and crown a barrel yourself, see the FAQs, I've done several.

Technically shorter barrels are more accurate compared to another of the same thickness. Less harmonics.

its double recoil pad, 2 limbsavers make it like a 30-06, with high power stuff, I mainly shoot the specials tho. My first reloads are probably going to be 500's. I also have the 500 snubnose sw., everyone hogs that gun too.

WOW that is a great looking rifle!  Love the wood!  Thats quite a sighting system...  :) 

Since I joined GBO as a Site Sponsor (SKINNER SIGHT FORUM) ( www.skinnersights.com ) I've been reading the H&R / NEF Handi Rifle forums with great interest.  The threads about the 500 S&W have always intrigued me.  There is a set of 500 dies, several boxes of bullets, and a bag of new brass sitting on the shelf in the reloading room because someday I was going to own one!

Yesterday was the day...   A H&R 500 S&W carbine (new) came home with me.

First thing to go was the fiber optic P L A S T I C Sights.   Seriously???  Plastic has never been a good sight material and certainly not on a 500 S&W. 

I've removed the plastic and installed a rear SKINNER aperture/peep sight, blued steel,  and built a blue steel ramp and front patridge sight for the gun.  Next will be shooting to see how tall that front sight needs to be.  (I left the front sight "overtall" to allow for trimming to the exact height necessary.

Anyone have suggestions on how to cure barrel/receiver wobble?  This gun is pretty loose...

 if the barrel fit is ok , check the forearm spacer clearance, it may need a shim to take up the slack when the action is open, as they say check the FAQ's its in there ;)

That's not good. I would send it in to be fixed if it is brand new.

Does the number on the barrel lug match the last 3 digits of the S/N?

I agree with Dave ,send it back since it is new. The other option is to fit the barrel with a shim to tighten it up.Those are some very nice sights you are making, by the way ;D

I know you know it, and I wish I didnt have to say it, but if its loose now it is only going to get worse in a heavy kicker like that.
It just has to go back.......get the shipping label from them for a pick-up or return to the shop you bought it.
