44 Mag Question

Never had a FA before and been looking for one in 44 Mag.........anyway, I'm in negotiations with a guy that has one and he claims he bought it new in 1991. Didn't know FA started producing them that early. When did the 44 Mag go in to production?

I can't answer the question, but the factory can.  Sometime after 1983 and before 1990. I bought my first one new in 1990. I BELIEVE the answer is 1985 or 1986.

I found another 44 Mag at quite a bit lower price than the one I mentioned on the first post of this thread and purchased it a couple of weeks ago. It's a 10 incher; I really had a 7.5" in mind but at the price I couldn't turn it down. It's in great shape and it is my first FA gun. It's been getting quite a workout since it's found a new home. I called the factory to see if they had any info on it and they said it was made in 1990 and sent to Honolulu, HI. The second owner said he bought it there from a guy in the Coast Guard who rarely shot it. Boy, these things get around don't they.

Here is a pic of my first FA, a used, recently purchased 44 Mag that I referenced above in this thread. To say I'm pleased with it is an understatement. Me and my reloads have given it quite a workout since. Now I need to find some nice reasonably priced grips.

I don't know why Axehandle hasn't responded in the last few days, but he had Gary Reeder fit those grips recently. I think they look great.

Dang...  Can't a guy take a break every one in a while?   ;)
GNR fit the grips.  Gary says the material supplier calls the material micarta but they look like the same material another supplier calls corian.  They have a good reputation.  He has been using them quite a while.   He asks that you ship him the entire gun...   $100 for the grips and $40 more to ship it home.  I sent two, the FA and a Bowen Nimrod 500L, and saved a little..
