new guy with first browning
« on: February 24, 2011, 06:16:16 AM »
Just got my first Bar. Looked for 2 years and got it for $500. Safari 3006 with the quiet boss. Bluing is in great shape, even the business end of the boss. The butt has a pinkie finger nail chip at the action. No problem its going to be a hunting gun. Now I'm looking for a Burris Eliminator to top it. Just had to tell somebody that doesn't nod, give me a smile and say that's nice dear. Bob

Hey Bob, welcome to GBO!
I believe you will really like the BAR, sounds like you got a really good deal also.
My Dad and I both have a BAR in '06 and they are both very good shooters.

GOOD SHOOTING!

I have the same rifle,my second, and love it.My son (15) has started shooting it and this year made two one shot drop stops with it. The shine is covered by camo tape and it is VX3 topped. It do get heavy so it wears a comfy sling. Great stand gun, has killed three fat black bears and numerous bucks.

Looks like i'll be using a cheap temporary scope for a while to play at the range. Moneys a little tight at the moment. Still, I'm so excited to get this thing to the range for a shake down. Wont be for over a week, that's when the clip gets here. Bob

Nuts. The scope is to big. Should have got the 40 not the 50.  Hits the barrel by less than .1 on the front lens. Lucky me, I'm a machinist with the resources to make a shim to put between the scope and mounts. Its a quick temp fix. Cabelas sent a message the clip is in, so tests should be soon. Bob

Whoo Hoo. She's a shooter and a keeper. Found paper at 50 yards, dialed in and moved out to 100. 8 shots in a row in 2 inch group with a very warm barrel and a super cheap scope. Think i need to shoot more and get used to it. Maybe try tuning the boss a little.   I'm happy. Kicks more than i expected. Just like the remington. Wouldn't mind a softer trigger. Not much though. Time to clean her up and put her away for a short while. Bob
