Will a .30-06 chamber clean up if you run a .300H&H reamer into it?  Can a .30-06 Model 700 be converted to .300H&H easily?

The best way to clean up a rifle chamber is wrap an old bronze bore brush with 4-0 steel wool, put it on a short cleaning rod stick that in a drill, and soak it with gun oil. Run it a few seconds inside the chamber, and then clean the gunk out. That should be more than enough.

 ;) Swampman, my mentor had a Enfield rechambered to .300 H & H many, many years ago..so I would say yes..it would be an easily completed project..I am not sure if the chamber area of Rem. barrels differes with mag. cases over the old 06 or not..that would be my ONLY question..but I know they did chamber the old 700 in both the H & H and Wea. but I am not sure if the barrel configurations was different or not..hope this helps..it is a great old round..I have had several...

What will the Holland and Holland do, that the 3006 won't do, and a bunch cheaper to boot? IF, you can find Holland and Holland brass, or ammo if you don't reload.

I have a .30-06 but I want a vintage 30 caliber magnum as a mate to my .375H&H.  The 700 Classic was chambered in .300H&H one year.

From looking at the chamber drawings, the 300 H&H will completely clean up the 30-06 chamber.

I think it might be very easy and inexpensive to stick a 24" Remington .30-06 take-off barrel on a Remington 7mmRM donor rifle and have it rechambered.

The 300 H and H will clean up the 06. Had a 06 barrel with both a 06 reamer and a 308 reamer used on it. My 2 options with the reamers I had available were 06 ackley and 300 h and h. I chose the ackley.

 ;) Swampman, Dee made a point about ammo..it is not common and rather expensive..if you don't reload, which I think you mentioned you don't, that could be an issue..as for shooting..the last .300 H & H I put together shot a 150 grain about 500 fps faster than the 06..It was a hot load but accurate and adeadly killer on plains game in Wy.  If you just want one because.......It is a cool caliber ..I have been considering a #1 in that round..

Swamp....I would agree... a 24" 30cal barrel would work just fine....the issue is really the boltface. Using a 7mmRM action would pretty much take care of this and alleviate the magazine feed issue.

The bolt face is the greatest challenge but the 7mmMag action take care of that.. The magazine box for the 7mmMag may bot feed well though.. The rem mag is a short action magnum (first generation??) and as such is wuite a bit shorter than the 300 H&H.. but replacing a magazine box is pretty cheap and easy enough.. Other than that I'd rather go with the 26 inch barrel to get the max benefit out of the larger case of the 300. I too really like the 300 or Super 30 as the brits might say. I have a pre-64 with an undrilled rear bridge.. It's in such great shape I just can't bring myself to drill it and can no longer see well enough for irons.. It'll have to wait until I get around to making a custom mount using the receiver sight holes already present.. Also in the vault is a Browing (Winchester 1885) B78 that was originally a 30-06 and was rechmbered.. It has ejection troubles that I traced to the extractor/ejector spring plunger.. It's not there!! All previously owned 300H&H's didn't stay as someone wanted them more than I. I'm almost afraid to fix eith rifle I have as then someone might make an offer and temptation again rear it's ugly head! I believe the new Ruger Boddington (African) series of No.1 rifles has an entry chambered in 300 H&H. The 300 will generate 250-350 FPS more speed than the 30-06 and that's a fairly significant difference.. Is it necessary???probably not but who cares.. If necessary were a criteian we'd all have one ifle..  and that would surely be boring..
