HERE IT COMES AGAIN.
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:10:07 AM »
Last week we had several warm days, we got rid of a lot of our snow. In the next couple of hours we are going to get hit with a big storm. Looks like close to 18 more inches in the next 24 hours.
I have been on the wrong end of a snow shovel --all winter.Record snow in december and we still have all of March to go, and March is our second snowiest month.
Looks like we will see spring flooding like we haven't seen in 40 years.
In 1969 ,I got out of school for over 3 weeks to work on the floods. I am afraid a lot of educatiions are going to be ignored again this spring.

Good morning Tom,

Well if people have learned what late winter/early spring flooding has done in the past, they have been properly educated. If they havent, they'll be properly educated this time! Lets just pray that nobody is caused harm & distressed by the coming floods!

Heck highwater means more movement of bvr and if you up to it setting and resetting traps you can harvest  a good harvest of beaver without chopping thru two feet of ice.    Snow storm is about 6 hours behind here in central WI.

We got nothing but rain yesterday here in northern IL. I went to let the hounds out this morning and noticed that the rain turned to ice over night. It should be interesting checking my 330's later today. I hope the highway dept puts some sand & salt down on the roads soon!

Tom
I decided to look at the forum before I go out and snowblow and shovel. I worked yesterday so just got home this morning and of course my wife don't move snow. So while I type this it is snowing even more on top of about 5 inches of yesterdays snow and some light rain from overnight.
Like you I've been on the wrong end of the shovel far to many times this winter.
But what ya gonna do??

Mark, first I am going to have a cup of coffee. Then put some hip boots and grab my shovel.I figure if I break it into small sessions,it will only take a few days.
Oh I forgot, I need to get out before Thursday--guess I will have to lengthen my sessions.

613 shovels full later, I am nowhere near done. But I can back the car out to the main road. Another few hours,I will have the bulk completed. The hardest part is throwing it over my new piles(they are over 6 feet now).
Think its time for a nap.

Well the rain turned to ice and the ice turned to snow here in northern IL. The creeks & rivers came up a good amount from all of this. I went out this morning and pulled all of my 330's since the creek waters are high and freezing up again. I sure hope this weather stabilizes soon! The only fur season thats left open here is beaver. I still have a little over a month before it closes on March 31st. I'll get them soaking again soon.

I've never seen a winter like this one in my area of upper Michigan. Every major snow storm missed my area, the little bit of snow we got was all lake effect off Lake Superior. The most snow we have had on the ground at one time is about 6". Most every other year we would have had over 3'  on the ground in February and now bare ground is showing. Unless March comes in like Lion there won't be any high water levels here this Spring.
