shot the new 22 today
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:17:00 PM »
well i got out today in the howling wind . went for a walk  with my buddy along his trap line today took the new 22 encore 15 in. with me no scope just sights,  he got a coon in his trap asked me if i wanted to shoot it i said no ill wait till i get my first animal to draw blood . but i did  sit  down with the shooting stick and start plinking while he reset his trap.  the barrel shot 1inch high at about 30 yards out of the blister pack. was  nice to shoot not to loud and it carried well. i thought it would be extra heavy being just a 22 but not to bad . no targets  just dirt piles and junk in the woods. i only shot a few the wind was bad . so im going to say i love it and sure it will shoot good groups as i play with it more.  im thinking i might have to put a scope on it my eyes are not doing good with the sugar and am not seeing the sights as well as i used to. what do you guys use paint up your sights. BEST COLORS FRONT AND REAR ?.  i have a old tasco 2x and a simmons 2x6 prohunter thinking the 2x will be fine just to put a cross hair on the target or animal . i got this barrel for trapping and small game hunting but mostly trapping but if it shoots good i will use it for squirrel. glad i traded for it. with the price of shells today it will give me cheap practice for my larger calibers  ;D

my wife found me a bottle of neon orange nail polish on clearance for $2 at the drug store, I put a coat or two on the tip of my front sight.  Good luck,  I love my 10" octagon contender .22 barel

I prefer a 4x scope on my Contender, maybe even something like a 2-8x variable.  The reason for this is that the 22's shoot so dang well that having the extra magnification makes it so much easier to see out to 50+ yards.  Up close on targets at 25 yards or so it's like surgery!

If you paint the sights, you might try one of the "paint markers" with some bright yellow.  My Ruger MKII is much easier to shoot with the front blade and the very top edge of the rear sight painted.  By putting that touch of paint across the top edge of the rear blade it makes it easier for my eyes to pick out and level the front blade across the top of the rear sight.
