Antique Trap Tags
« on: February 18, 2011, 06:02:49 AM »
As I've gone through my years, I was always kind of fascinated with various antiques that have to do with farming along with our outdoors sports. I have collected a few things through the years and I just acquired 3 old Illinois trap tags. I thought I'd share this photo with you guys since I'm sure that some of you fall in this same boat.

They look like some of the Mississippi tags that  you have to have on traps in refuges.  Wis has  tags that trappers collect from past years.    If you want i can send you some extras i have if you want to collect Wi trap tags.

Some year back when I bought some used traps they had old WI tags on them. Tags from the state of WI were required on each trap from 1923 to 1973. What is funny is I had tags on my traps from the early 70s but just cut them off at the end of the season and set them who know where. Later when I bought used traps with tags I started saving them. I now have most all the WI tags with the exception of a couple that are spendy to get. I also years ago tossed the tags required here to trap on the Mississippi River. Those tags started somewhere in the 1940s I believe and are still required today. We are limited to 40 tags on the river. I have many of the Mississippi refuge tags and would have more if again I hadn't discarded some when I was younger. Who ever knows what to save or throw.
If any one is interested I could post pictures of some of the older tags. I would even be open to trading some of the tags I have doubls of for tags I don't have.

Wow...I have a few #1 Newhouse traps that have tags stamped  IIRC "Wisconsin Trap 1919"...The heck of it is I used them for varmints around the farm as a kid. I still have them!

What are tags going for now?
