i actually prefer to weigh my BH209 charges on a scale. 71 grains weight = 100gr volume BH209. They have a conversion chart on their website.

It is the best black powder sub out there in my opinion. You can shoot all day with out cleaning. Clean up is as easy as it comes. I use hoppes no 9, then G96 spray. Its non corrosive. Velocity is good. I can usually get 1 inch groups out of my Encore with 250 grain XTPs in a MMp 3 petal sabot sitting on 90-100 grains of BH209.

Well I looked all over for this magic product, and no one seems to stock it...

I went to 5 stores(Dick's, sports authority, wholesale sports, Bi-mart, and local gun dealer) that sell rifles and powder. You would think if this is the best BP sub there is, people would be selling it.

That and I just read I could use it in my Optima, but not in my Knight Shadow, because of breech plug design. $:-\$ Oh well, triple 7 works good for me, I guess I can handle a couple more patches at cleaning time.

keeping it in stock at the stores is almost impossible as it sells so fast.

I order in bulk directly from the factory.

I wish that was the case. I asked for it exclusively at every store. I got 3 "we don't stock it" and 2 blank looks(didn't know what it was). I live in Portland OR, so its not like podunk, USA. Pyrodex and Triple 7 everywhere. I don't know, maybe it's like the show Portlandia, were still stuck in the 90's. LOL

good report your findings are very similar to my own.
I have used in lines as my main deer rifle since 1990. Ive tried just about every powder out there and this one lived up to the hype. Its not cheap but its worth it. Even though In the past few years i have been using my traditional muzzleloaders more and more I still carry my in lines in certain areas and usually opening day. I killed 2 deer this year with the stuff opening morning. It also has a better shelf life than most other substitutes.

You might never find it in Oregon... It must be ignited with a shotgun type primer and I am thinking in Oregon all you can use is percussion cap for ignition. Same here in Idaho...

I've weighed charges but accuracy didn't improve. In fact sometimes it was worse.

I don't jack around either. Have weighed measured charges of BH and they come out to +or- one or two grains. Not worth the effort.

Bought some a couple of days ago to try. Cost nearly three times as much as black powder but I am hoping it is as clean as they say. If the snow ever lets up around here I will get out and give it a try.

It is, just remember you do need to use a petroleum based solvents and cleaners as opposed to the water based products or even soap and water that you are probably used to.

You clean it like you would smokeless powder. Use the oil based cleaners and you're good to go

It really IS that good. After seeing people putting their guns in the bathtub and all that when I first got my muzzleloader I picked up BH209 and I have never looked for anything else.

If you are having trouble finding it go to their website. They list by state where they ship it. For me, here in So. Cal there is only one place but I call first then make the hour long drive. It's worth it!

So what's the difference in weighing charges and throwing them in one of those tubes, compared to filling a volumetric tube to a line? Maybe I'm wrong but if you were using the same tube/tubes, your 71gr weighed charge would fill a tube to the same mark every time. So why bother weighing each one. Fill it to the line and you're shooting, not spending time with your scale

Besides, up or down two or three grains doesn't make any difference, I've tried, just wastes time.

I weigh 65 grains = 93g by volume with a 250 grain Hornady SST-Ml low drag sabot in my T/C Bone Collector.
I will never again use anything other than Blackhorn 209 in my Bone Collector.

I like to weigh, it does not take long to weigh 20 or 30.
Multiple volume (100g) x .7 = 70g weight, 90g x .7 = 63g weight and so on.
I like the Hornadys about $10 for 20, better than the T/C Shockwave super glides for about $14

Blackhorn 209 Recommends magnum primers, CCI M or Federal 209A.

Blackhorn 209 will not work with all breech plugs
