I'm sure this has been discussed here before, maybe i'm missing something in the facs. Does the factory front sight work with the wgrs? Sorry this is repetative.Thanks, dinger.

I had researched quite a bit when I got mine and had I used the wgrs sight I would have added the .250 riser to the front sight to bring it up to .620 which would give you some adjustability with the wgrs sight.

I acquired a .25" riser as mentioned and a .3/16"high ramp.  Haven't decided which way to go yet.

edit  After rereading Jimbo47's post I think I understand he was talking about the .25" riser on top of the ramp that was already there.  In my application I'm raising my Lyman 17a to work with a Krag sight on my BC 45-70.

On the .45LC version I had to go to the Lyman 17ATC (.852) (from Midway)to get the WGRS to sight low enough for 264gr cast bullets (454190).

IMHO a ramp has a nicer 'finished' look once done; gets rid of the 'guthook' look.

A Lyman #20 Globe sight also works very well with the peep sight.

another way to go could be that williams sells a dovetail slot with a threaded hole in it, you fit the slot to the barrel dovetail then you can screw a ramp to the slot, then fit a dovetail insert sight to the ramp. Jimbo's right....you need an over all height of .620 above barrel to make the wgrs work. FYI brownell's sells sight blanks (post type,either .100 or ..080 wide post) that you shape and fit with a file that sell for less than 10 bucks. They come unfinished( steel,in the white) and after i fit em to the ramp and to the height i need a little flat black rattle can spray paint makes for a good finish. Sounds difficult but it's not...a good DIY project.....Mike

Another nice finish for small steel parts is to boil a small pan of water and dip the degreased part in for a bit with needle-nose pliers or a little wire wrap. Pull out, the water evaporates quickly, and swab it with some cold blueing solution on a Q-tip. Repeat until you have a good dark finish, let cool, wipe with a cloth and oil.

Works on big parts too, I use heat with Brownells Oxpho Blue Creme, it doesn't evaporate and leave streaks like thin liquid cold blue, link is in the FAQs refinishing section.  ;)
