Hey..

Got the new rifle and scope yesterday! 260 Remington Model 7 Stainless/Synthetic with a Leupold 3-9 VXII scope

Take a look and tell me what you think. I hunted with the exact gun this hunting season and love it:

That is one slick looking little rig, I like it! I just got a 700 Titanium in 260 myself. Let me know if you have any good loads you want to share. Good 260 ammo is getting harder to find, plenty of 7mm-08 though :(  It makes me upset that Remington does not seem to be supporting the cartridge as much as they should. I know from experience that the 6.5 JDJ kills game like poison. The 260 is all that and more!

HHI,

Howdy! The ammunition I swear by with this gun and has brought me great success is the "260 Rem. 140gr. Federal Premium Boat-tail". Very flat shot with them, they don't seem to arch much at all..

What do you use?

I have serious concerns about the accuracy you are gonna get from that rig pictured.    My biggest concern is I just don't think that the rings and bases you've chosen there are gonna get the job done.  :-D  :-D  :-D

My Model 7 SS with the plastic stock like that in 7-08 sure was a good shooter. I traded it on an R700 LSS Mtn. Rifle also in 7-08 tho cuz I just don't like the cold feel and noise of plastic stocks. Was gonna get a laminated stock for the Model 7 but Remington wanted as much for it as I paid for the rifle and I could never seem to find the complete rifle to just trade for. So when the LSS Mtn. Rife showed up on the shelf I took it home with me. No regrets it is a winner.

Thanks HuntingGuy. I will give the Federal Premiums a try.

Graybeard is right. Is that the new Burris Invisi-Ring set up that I have heard rumors about

LOL!  :) It sure is *laughs*

They didnt have the scope mounts in stock for the gun in Leupold so I had them special order em.. Should be a complete gun in..lets say.. a week?

Yep, give Federal Premium a try.. Will give you real good grouping. I would recommend the Boat-Tail bullet.. Worked real well for me, but really expands on impact.. Should have seen the golf ball sized hole in that buck

:D Nice rifle! I had one in .308 and the only drawback was the muzzle jump when you pulled the trigger. I sold it to a guy Longwinters works with for his son....his son has yet to see it.....He loves it for the deer woods.  :-D

Yes.. There is a bit of jump, but the recoil isnt too bad at all - That is one of the things I really like about it. Cant wait to get it to the range this summer and sight it in!

Not only is the rig a good set-up, but so is your choice in cartridge.  I think that the .260 Remington is a great little cartridge, especially with 140 grain bullets.

I build a 260 Rem on a Model 7 for my daughter.  I found a 22 inch Mountain rifle barrel and it screwed right in and headspaced.  I tried a 3-9 x40 scope on it but it didn't look right.  The scope over powered the rifle so we went with a 2-7 Burris compact.  Made the rifle look a lot neater and handled better.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Still I would love to have one like yours.

Well to tell you the truth.. I would rather have a good, real good rifle than something that looks "perfect". Performance to me is alot more important than looks  :D

I don't think we gave up anything in performance and the handling seemed better.  A good quality 2-7 is usable long after legal shooting light here and I don't need the extra magnification on the 260 for deer.  If you are going to use the rifle for praire dogs or coyote it might be useful.  I've got several 3-9 on my full sized rifles in 300 Win mag and on a 225 Win coyote rifle so I don't have anything against them.  If fact I have been thinking about getting another Leupold in 3-9 to replace the one on my 300 Mag.
