Topper 158 question
« on: February 15, 2011, 03:55:58 PM »
I recently came across a Topper 158 12g shotgun.   IIRC it has a 28" bbl and is stamped 2 3/4 chamber.   It is sn AF164xx.  Is this just a "sb1" type receiver or is it a type that you can put rifle caliber barrels?  Also it looks like a case hardened finish and is in vg shape.  What do you suppose is a fair value for it?   Thanks for your help.

It is a cast iron frame. If it has the fat firing pin you could have problems with centerfire calibers. Some of them came with low pressure centerfire bbl's. But they had small firing pins. 22Hornet,.22Jet 44mag 45/70 gov 30-30. "Please Read" the Faq's there is all the info you seek there. The factory will not fit anything to this frame. They were case colored not hardened. Kurt

Resale around here, depending on condition, runs $75 up, but you can buy a new one for $120or less.
The older ones may not have the transfer bar safety (I dont know the cut-off date) which may, or may not appeal to you.

Steelworker look at your firing pin if it's a small one your gun may of been a centerfire 12ga combo. Kurt
