mauser maximim cartridge length

I want to sporterize my mauser and I was woundering what is the longest cartridge I can use.  My mauser is a 98.  Is it long enough for a 30-06?

It will require some modification to the mag box and lengthening of the mag cutout in the reciever but neither mod is a major operation.GD

The standard mauser magazine for the 8x57 will take most 30-06 rounds without any modifications.  The only rounds I ever had any trouble with were the long military surplus rounds.  Most hunting rounds will fit it easily.
