I am looking ot buy a new rifle in the 270 wsm cartridge.  I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on which rifles had the best accuracy??  Was thinking of a savage or a winchester.  Any opinions on either or of a different make??  Thank you for your help.

wvbowman04,

Right now the most accurate out of the box rifle seems to be the Savage.  The new 2004 models all have their new AccurTrigger which is the talk of the gun world.  I don't own one but that is going to change as I put in my order for one in .300 WSM.  Lawdog

I'm real happy with the winchester model 70 that I bought. I'm getting 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

I have a savage in 30-06 that is a lot more accurate than its owner. :oops:   I can get 1-1.5 inch groups easily with factory ammo depending on me.  It would be a lot more accurate if I had some more practice.  A new Savage with a AccuTrigger would be a very accurate rifle that would probably produce 1 inch groups consistantly.

I bought a new Winchester Coyote in 270 WSM.  I bought some Winchester 150 PP ammo and went to my range.  After two shots to sight in, the next five shots went into a .85 inch group at 100 yds.  I figured that I was good out to four hundrd yards with the rifle.  Shot my deer with it at 15 yards.  Go figure!

crow-feather,

That is the way it usually goes.  Take a short range rifle and the deer are always WAY over younder.  Take a rifle that will reach out there and the deer are at pistol range.  Go figure.  Like the old saying goes;

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

This is why I carry a magnum a lot of the time.   :-D   Lawdog

I have a Savage 300wsm and I can drive tacks with it at 250 yards. Shot a Nubbin Buck at 550 yards a few weeks ago. I also own a Savage 30-06 110 and can hit a 6 inch target at 400 yds with ease. That's even with the cheap scope that it comes with  Savage is well known for accuracy at a reasonable price.

Big Tom just got a Sako Finnlite in 300 wsm.  Very nice.  Trigger at 3# out of the box. Stainless/syn.  Fluted barrel.  A few shells to sight in and he has another Sako that groups under an inch with factory loads.  But I hear the wait is long for the same rifle in 270 wsm.  The dealer waited almost a year for this 300 wsm.
