45-120 reamer selection

I've always had a smith do any chambering work I needed done.  After reading of several folks here doing their own work reaming chambers to longer cartridges I'm wanting to give it a try.

My question is when taking my BC from 45-70 to 45-120 should I rent the "floating" or "fixed" pilot reamer?

Floating pilot if you slug the throat and know what size you need if it will fit better than the solid pilot they offer.

When I first got the rifle I did a chamber cast that included the first inch of the bore.  Short throat showed up and I've been loading for that.  With the re-chamber I'm going to go for a longer throat for sure.

I'll slug the bore and maybe the reamer folks can tell me what would be best.  Hadn't thought about that, thanks Tim.

Just make sure that you dont take ANY off the rim seat if brass currently sits in it right.

Good point and I'll be sure to watch that. 

I was talking to SWMBO about this and she ask "Why don't you just buy a rifle in the calibre you want?"

May be forced into getting a second BC.
