Getting ready to set up my 270
« on: February 11, 2011, 05:48:00 PM »
Finally got around to buying a frame for this 270 Win barrel I bought here a long time ago. Other priorities got in the way I guess. Now I have all the pieces I just need to do some hammer mod to get the Bushnell scope bell to fit with the rings I already have. . Thought about just getting high rings but I want to try the mod first. Luckily this barrel fits up just right to the new frame so that is good to go. I am excited to try it out like a kid waiting for Christmas!

handi stocks are too low for me... if I used a scope on one I'd have my face floating above the stock.  no stockweld, no accuracy.  here's a link for a quick fix for that:  http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=705857&type=product&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=AdWordsProductListings&WT.z_mc_id1=705857&RID=40&mr:trackingCode=2F1D3893-74A6-DF11-907B-002219318F67&mr:referralID=NA&rid=10

i used a permanent cheek-pad, but it was such a pain to dremel it into shape, polish it, dremel, polish, dremel, polish.... don't do that to yourself.

what loads are you using for 270?

Thanks for the tip, I may have to try it. I fashioned a cartridge holder on one of mine with some padding added beneath it and it worked ok on that other rifle. Just a basic cartridge holder with the padding underneath.

Haven't worked up any loads yet for the 270...I am open to suggestions  8)

the Weaver high rings quadlock were what worked for that Bushnell scope with a slight hammer modification. No way a medium height ring would work on it with a big ocular bell on that 3x9 40mm scope. but it seems comfortable enough for me, will see what I can do with it once I get to the range.

This turned out pretty good I think. A mix of parts bought here mostly. Thought I would put a pic up.

jal,

nice lookin' rifle!  My 270 Win likes the 130 grain Rem CoreLokt bullets over IMR 3031, about 2 grain below max.

Thanks BB for that piece of information. I am looking forward to shooting it, maybe this weekend. I have two boxes of Remington ammo on the shelf but will quickly move to my reloads once its sighted in.
