Sako Finnlite in .300 WSM

I happened to stop at a nearby gun shop today looking for a .270 WSM Tikka T-3. I've checked for 100 mile radius and they are scarce with waiting lists ahead of me.
The shop ordered a new Sako Finnlite in .300 WSM for a customer several months ago and it came in this morning. The customer, impatiently bought another rifle already, .....so I was offered it for $200 less....still in the box. :lol:

Any opinions/experience with the .300 WSM and/or Sako Finnlite?  :?:  :?:
Ballistically it looks like a dynamite mid to long range cartridge with 150-160 gr bullets in a short action.  :eek:

It is a very nice rifle...I had one in 25-06 last year.  The quality is five star, much higher than a Tikka.  They are extremely well built, some say over built, and are generally very accurate as well.  My beef was the barrel was a bit short for the 25.....velocity suffered and the mussle blast was unreal.  The other problem I had was finding rings that would get the 40mm scope down close to the barrel....I like them close and I was not able to get that with the Sako Optilock system.  Europeans use BIG scopes for night action and the scope rings as made for that.  The Leupold rings worked better for this on my 300 WM Sako 75 but was still not as low as I like it.  

As for the cartridge, I am already on record as being against this latest marketing strategy.  To each his own.

Have to agree---nice rifle-----but the barrel is waaay too short for that caliber.

I took the new Finnlite to the range today!  :gun4:
Conditions were blustery with single digit temps and a foot of snow. The only .300 WSM ammo I could find was a box of SuperX 180 gr Power pts.
I intend to load up some 150 gr Nosler BTs as soon as I can get the materials. I put a Zeiss 3X9X42 on Leupold rings/bases and the set up was just right.
I was surprised at the recoil  :o  ..... especially in this lighter weight rifle....about the same as a 7 MM....muzzle lift was very controllable. The best accuracy load in the Nosler book is rather light for a 150 NPT so I believe this rifle will not be tough to handle at all.
My best 100 group was about an inch and 3 groups ave just over an inch with the factory 180s.
I was looking for an all purpose, weather proof, hunting rifle and I think this one is a keeper, although a .270 WSM would have been even nicer.  :roll:

If I'm not mistaken the 300WSM in the Finnlight has a 22 inch barrel.  I have the 270 Finnlight with the 20" barrel.  I don't think it would hurt anything to have two more inches.  I held one (300 WSM) in my hands just the other day.  Sure looked nice!!!

Even though the barrel may be a little short it is still the best shooter I have.

Sako calls it 22 7/16....many 22" barrels don't do justice even to a fully loaded 30.06 as far as total powder burn.
This is not a big issue with me as this rifle will be set up with 150 gr bullets with lighter (accuracy) loads of 70-75% capacity for deer and antelope. That puts the .300 WSM at the 30.06 recoil level at a 200 fps trajectory advantage in a light, quick handling, all weather rifle thats guaranteed to 1" MOA.

The Finnlight is essentially a M75 SS with a shorter, fluted barrel - really no other significant difference.

If you are not a reloader, I would try Federal's new 180 grain Nosler Partitions.  They have proved to be more accurate in my brother's 300WSM (Winchester Classic Stainless) than the cheaper 180 grain Power Points.
