I carry a SBH 4 5/8" (I know, wrong forum buddy, but bare with me)...with big nasty 300 grain Corbon or Horndy is really not that bad(just let the gun rise up...better then fighting it)...in my 7.5 super redhawk, not much worse...If I plan on a 150 round session of hot stuff, I use gloves...but for 50 rounds, I don't bother....the issue for me is...full powert 300-320 grainers aren't Idea for Humans...we tend to be too thin for the round to transfer its ubundent energy...I like a low-mid powered 44mag in 240 grain, or a hot 44 special...which is in my opinion a little better...now I am speaking for suberbs living...in the country/desert/mountains may be different...To this day, I have always said...if I could only own one gun...it would be a Smith 29 (not 629) in 4 inch or a Redhawk in 44 or 45colt...(blued)...sorry to blasfim...I don't like the colt...but I'd take a Wesson
One of my reasons for loveing the big bores...they are fun to reload ammo for and have great flexability...my Wife like my 44s with specials or cowboy loads in them, my nephew loves the hand brusers...

just a BTW...taurus has a 5 shot 44mag in 4 inch now in the tracker series...

And MEC...thats not just a gun you got there...its a work of art...serrious Envy!

I'm with you Inluv.  The .44 mags are just incredibly flexible.  I'm the lucky owner of a 6" Anaconda and a 4" 629.  The Anaconda just seems to LOVE those 336 gr. cast LBT WFNs I put thru it.  I'm just starting to work the 629 but probably will feed it primarily 250 gr. WFNs.  You can load them tame as puddy tats or mean as an old bear!

Hey Mikey,

What grips do you have on that 4 inch 44?

HappyHunter:  Hay Fred:  I used to carry the small service panels (regular small grips) on mine for everyday stuff, especially kickin' cans and the like but, when I go to full house loads for hunting season I put the larger, factory target grips back on - it saves my thumb from acting up on me.  I am trying to find a pair of original factory smooth target grips - they would fit my hand better and most likely remain on the gun as it is easier to shoot with for me.

Some of the Eagle grips are nice but often too thin for magnum work.  I have a beautiful pair of their black buffalo horn grips on my short Model 27 and although they look very nice, full house loads even in the 357 will whack my shooting thumb a bit.  I'm even thinking that if I can find one pair of the S&W smooth target grips I might buy two pair (lol, well maybe...).  HTH.  Mikey.

:cb2: I put the Hogue rubber monogrips on all of my DA handguns. They improve control, tame recoil, and just feel good. I tried not to put them on my M10 for soooooo long—just thought the wood grips looked so much better (and that wild .38 has such massive recoil to tame  :) ), but I shoot so much better with them, that I couldn't resist. Tried the Anaconda without them, too, but after three shots (I'm a slow learner), the Hogues went on.

Heck, one of the reasons why I quit shooting automatics is because you just can't beat the feel of a good wheelgun. DA or SA.
