Rim Fire BArrel on SB2 Frame
« on: February 05, 2011, 04:55:10 AM »
I looked in the FAQ's and didn't see anything(but it may still be there) on this question.  Can a rimfire barrel be mounted on a sb2 frame?  Is the barrel chamber offset on the 17hmr and 22mag so that the firing pin would strike the side of the cartridge, or is the Sportster frame different from the SB1 and SB2?

Thanks

SS1 Sportster frame has an offset firing pin, the only offset bore rimfire barrels ever made are the Versa Pack 22Lr and the rimfire barrels that came with the 3-barrel combos H&R made a few years ago which are very uncommon to rare, the didn't make very many of them, no more than 750 which is the number they said they would make prior to production, but I don't know if they ever made that many.

If I understand, the current Sportster frame has an offset firing pin, and the barrel chamber is not offset.  Therefore a rim fire barrel would not work on a SB1 or SB2 frame.

Thanks for the "Quick" reply.

A rechamber to a centerfire round like 17AH or 218 Bee is the only way to make a standard rimfire barrel work on an SB1 or SB2 frame.
