Another Taurus story
« on: December 18, 2003, 04:23:28 PM »
My son-in-law's boss bought a little 45 auto made by Taurus yesterday, and brought it out to our range to fire a few rounds through it. Every time he fired it the clip fell out.

I don't know just which model it is, but he's got to send it to the factory.
Hey, hold my beer and watch this.

Was it the 945?  When I used to run a gunshop ( 5-6 years ago) we had lots of Taurus semi-autos going out for repair.  Wheelguns weren't much of a problem though, no more so than any other brand.  Seems that the QC has been lacking the past few years from what I've been reading on this (and other) forums.

BTW - One day I was getting ready to put a SS 945 in the display case at the shop.  I put the mag in the gun and racked the slide which locked back on the empty mag.  I flipped the slide release lever and the slide went forward and the mag floorplate flew off and the mag spring went flying!     Put it back in the box right then and sent it back.

I do not know just which model it is, but since it's a compact 45 auto, that might be the one.

I wasn't with them when they were shooting it, but my son-in-law came to the house later in the afternoon and told me about the problem.

I told the boy that next time his boss went shopping to steer him to the Ruger, Colt, or Smith section.

I've read bad things about the compact 45s.  From what I've read in general, everyone seems to be making polymer framed pistols, but not everyone can do it right.  If you want a low priced, metal frame 1911 is the way to go for a good one.  In fact, the only good polymer framed 45s that I know of are the polymer framed 1911s and the HKs.  Polymer framed guns should have a substantial inner frame of metal, such as the Steyrs and Springfield XDs.

Have a PT 145 Millenium and love it. Have had no problems of any kind and it shoots a lot better than I can. Was at the range a couple of weeks ago and one of the guys who works there wanted to shoot it. He does shoot competition. 7 yards, 10 rounds, Speer Lawman, one ragged hole.

Dropping the Mag on every shot???
Take a look at the mag release button, you might have some dirt preventing it from returning to the locked position, no luck there try another magazine....
Taurus made a poor product in the early days, but wisened up in the early 1980's I was hard pressed to Buy S&W when I compared the copy-cat Taurus models. I was a Dealer at the time, recommended and sold Taurus 3 to 1 over S&W. Sorry,,,, I just thought it was a superior product with a better Warranty.  My customers agreed...

It's entirely possible that they fell back into the quality slump.
