got a few more traps the other day
« on: January 28, 2011, 07:42:54 PM »
picked up 6 northwoods 1 3/4 sj nice with chains swivels and shock springs so that makes 19#2 victors 2 #2 northwoods 6 #1 3/4 northwoods and 1 montgomry #1 1/2 dogless. i like the dogless set up very nice trap . this should get me started off on the right foot for trapping next season. i made a bucket for trapping took a 5 gallon bucket wrapped a old maddog waist pac around it going to put some small bolts through it so it doesent slid down the bucket. drilled 2 new holes up in the lip area . i put heavyduty key rings in it hooked a very long gun sling i made for my encore pistol. it  works great for over head oppisite shoulder carry. i  need to figure out a lil pad for my hip but seems like it will work good. picked up some burger patty paper for pan covers. got a good set of linesmans pliers and a set of side cutters .looking at stakes and traping hammers. not sure what way im going on the hammer yet .but the one with the hoe and hole digger is looking like the one im going to get its 20 bucks but its a 3 way tool and its a pound lighter than the sod buster i was going to get and it had no hole cutter a few things at a time by next season i should be ready to run a line.

looks like you are getting a good start for next year...........

one alternative on hammers, is a masons hammer. it has both a striking head (hammer end) and a blade end. in extreme rocky, frozen soil its not as heavy as some like, but I use mine on 99.9% of my sets and have for years.

the only exception, is soil froze to more then the length of rebar, and i use a 2lb sledge for those rare cases

best to stick with laying block  with your mason hammer here lol..in this rocky ground you would never drive a stake with one.i use a mattock to dig my beds with and my stake driver to make the holes.i use a 4 lb hammer with my chained supper stakes from mtp.
