i'm very interested on the .358 JDJ, anyone out there wanta school me on it. also, what would be the the average cost of getting a .35 remington barrel rechambered in it. thanks.

A rechamber is about $100 at SSK and the dies are probably just shy of that so I'd guess about $200 for the rechamber and dies....GS

It's been a long time but best I recall I was getting about 2300 from Nosler 225 BTs and PTs. AA2520 is THE POWDER for the .358 JDJ. It delivers best velocity and accuracy. I stopped about one grain shy of JD's max load and was getting a few fps more than the SSK data showed with the max load.

Mine was a TC .35 Rem rechamber by SSK.

I am not sure if SSK always ports the barrel, but you will definitely want the barrel ported as well.  The 358 is a great cartridge...I have killed 5 whitetails with mine.  All were taken with the 225 NBT, except for one and I shot him with the 180 Hornady SSPB.  Also do yourself a favor and get a good scope.  I have destroyed 3 or 4 cheap scopes.

The 358JDJ is a pussy cat as handcannons go IMO, so doesn't need to be braked unless you are recoil sensitive or just want one.   SSK offers both their Arrestor and Larry Kelly's M-N-P brakes, the later most often recommended for shorter barrels or shooting cast and available in both 2 and 4 port versions (and also a Super Arrestor for the true handcannons).    I think SSK's current prices start at $110 for the Arrestor/Contender and $150/Encore, $125 for the 4-port M-N-P brakes for either barrels with the 2 port probably a little less.   The custom dies for the 358JDJ are still $68.   Be aware that since not all TC factory barrels were created equal, with some slipping through QC that shouldn't have, SSK will not rechamber one that doesn't "measure up".    Been a long time, but if memory serves JD first advertised the 358JDJ as shooting 220's around 2250 in his custom barrels, and he usually suggested less for rechambers.   But that was a long time ago so they certainly may have proved that they could do better than that.   Regardless, if you get one have fun with it, and if you scope it do it right with a scope that has proven it can handle it.

Great round, I really like it. I wouldn't call myself recoil shy by any means, but I have a brake on mine(it was a 14" hunter bbl.). You won't have to pay for a brake that way, if you want one. It's death on deer w/rem. 200gr.round nose. You can seat the bullit out about 1/8-3/16" and easily get 2300fps with 200gr. without any pressure problems. JD does a good job.  Pat

thanks guy's. i have purchased a .358 jdj barrel off of another member. also got the dies, the T-SOB, along with some brass. i'll let ya'll know what i think when it gets here. depending how well i like it there might be a .35 rem barrel going up for sale.

That is very nice, but if your barrel does go up for sale post it on the Classified forum, not here. Offers to sell, buy, or any price discussion have to be removed from discussion forums.

thankyou for the reminder. i did not have intention's of making a sale off of my last post. was just making "conversation", and letting everybody know what was going on. i really don't know what i'm going to do until i get this barrel and run some rounds down the tube. heck, who know's, i might end up keeping both of them. ;D
