Horton Legend II 175# crossbow, opinions please.

Hello,

   One of the pawn shops I frequent has a Horton Legend II that appears to be in like new condition. It has the original sights and quiver and no add on accessories. The price on it is $199 but the guy does come down to a realistic price when you show up with a wad of cash and are ready to deal. There are also several musical pieces I would like, so I am contemplating a deal where I can get the lot. I am curious to hear of anyone's real life experience with this crossbow. Please tell me the good, bad and ugly. I have an older Xbow now, and have been eyeing a new Excaliber but am not willing to pay the price yet. If I could get it for $150 would it be a good deal ? Had one couldn't cock it even with the rope that comes with them. Got a crank cocking device it broke the first time I used it. Gave it to my oldest son. Dunno if he ever uses it or not.

It shot well so long as I was able to get one of the boys to cock it for me but that's kinda useless really.

Years ago I could easily pull a 90 pound vertical bow and even let it down. These days my shoulders both need surgery and I'm not sure I could pull a 35 pound bow. For sure I can't cock a crossbow.

Georgiadave, it would make a fine crossbow for you in the $200 range. They make a fine crossbow and have been in buisness for a long time, to me that says something. I have had a horton supermag from the early 90's and enjoyed it very much.

I am sure it will work well, but if you want an Excaliber, save your money and get one.. I would not sell mine and love it!

I have a Horton Legend XL and love it. Yep, hard to cock but so is any 175lb draw crossbow. It's fast, acurate, hard hitting and reliable.

I too have a Horton Supermagnum. I have taken more deer with it than my rifle. Twice I shot to far forward and lost all my shoulder roasts. A friend of mine has an Excaliber but has had to replace the limbs due to splitting and needs special bolts too.  $1000+ for the bow, sent back twice, expencive Bolts,......
  As close as you shoot with a cross bow, I really can not justify the added cost for a little more speed. Get the Horton and buy a fea more toys with the money you saved.
   That is unless impressing your friends with an expensive toy is more important to you than your money is.  I drive a Chevy, not a BMW.
