Rossi 92
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:34:46 AM »
I'm wanting a 357mag carbine. Probably the 16" Rossi carbine.
My question is would I be better off ordering one already slicked up from stevesgunz or just order a new one and see what I get. Then if it needs work send it to Steve to work his magic?

I'll get a stainless either way. What's the difference in price in a new one already slicked up by steve and a new one from a gun shop?

Thanks,
Byron

Donno about the price difference, you'd have to check with Steve fer that.

But I'm pretty sure you'll be money ahead to purchase a pre-slicked 92 from him, as opposed to buying one off the rack and then sending it to him.

I've handled some of Steve's work and it's well worth the money! I've also handled some new Rossi 92s right out of the box that were pretty miserable until they had been slicked.

Or buy the '92 off the shelf, then buy Steve's video on slicking up the '92 and do it yourself.  I just finished doing mine and an very happy, both with the video and the gun.  It's now very slick to shoot.  Haven't had it to a match yet, but eventually I will.

I've got a Rossi 92 (blued).  Got it last winter, and am very pleased with it. I've also got Steve's video, which is very informative, and if you follow it along, you'll end up with a very nice gun indeed.  To me the best part is the ejector spring work, especially if you handload.  In the factory-new configuration, the Rossi will fling your brass further than any other rifle I've ever had. Almost into orbit!! Follow Steve's instructions and your reloadable brass will pile up next to your feet like an original Winchester does it.  Get a quote from Steve on his rework, especially if you're not comfortable with doing it yourself.  In lieu of that, have some knowlegeable gunsmith in your area (preferably one over the age of 75 who's worked on a lot of Winchester 92's) do it if you don't want to ship your new gun across the country.  The difference between a 92 reworked as described in Steve's video and one straight out of the box is comparable to a car out of a junkyard and a new Mercedes. Steve's methods are that good, IMO.
