I don't own any non-fiber optic sights any more, changed them all to fiber optic, even on my flintlock!  ;)

If I can't have a scope I need something I can see. Fiber optics would be good.

A good redot scope for woods walking, and a nice interchanable 3x9 for sitting down. Unfortunately that wasn't the question.

I'm just 180 out from Tim , every set of iron sites that I have are now non-fiber , just never could get my eyes used to that glow , that and they match my handguns , a White outline rear and a Red ramp front .

I am ok with violating tradition. If I am not sure about fiber being good, it is only because I sometimes have trouble with dot sights in general.

years ago all of my iron sights were replaced by glass, in fact, I completely got rid of my muzzleloaders because my eyes just cannot use the irons. In the last year I have got a fiber optics and hunted for the first time in 20 years without a scope. Up to 75 yards, in the woods, they are great. Young eyes may use iron OK, but for me the fiber optics rolled the clock back decades.

I use and like both type of sights. I really like the use of a fiber optic front with a peep sight,
Since you are wondering about factory sights and this is the H&R forum, I sure hope you aren't thinking about using the plastic fiber optic sights that came broken on my new 500 S&W barrel. I took the plastic sights off ASAP and put a Williams Fire Sight on the front and a WGRS peep on the rear and a scout scope base in between.

I picking up a few new barrels from the accessory program. One a 357 Talo and the other a 35Rem.
Since the 357 comes with sights, I guessing that the WRGS and fire site would be an easy swap and go right on without any tapping needed correct?
The 35rem I guessing to be an issue since the plain barrel is drilled and tapped is for scope base. -g

I tried a set if fiber optics, didnt like them. I'm blind enough
that I have scopes on everything that I want to hit something
with. The rest are for admiring and fondling.

In Washington state muzzleloader seasons, glass optics aren't legal, fiber optics and a peep sight are the next best choice for old eyes and work great.  ;)

I forgot, I do have one rifle with a non-fiber optic front sight, the 45-120 with the Lyman 17A front sight, I did upgrade the sight insert to a Lee Shaver set tho, I can see it fine at the range on the bench if the light is good, the long sight radius helps a lot.

PigBoy Crabshaw on my 500 S&W barrel I redrilled the front sight hole and tapped it 6-48 as that is what size screw came with the front Fire Sight. I think the factory front sight is held on with a #5 screw.

+1!  As I found out this season with my Win M94.   ;D  Trouble is it's as ugly as a painted lady...  :-\  The one I have is coming off this year and being replaced by an ivory bead.   ;)

I've used ivory beads before, they're great in good light, but not so much in low light hunting conditions, I'd rather have an ugly front sight that works than a nice looking front sight that only looks good and doesn't work worth a damn in all conditions when hunting, and that was when I was younger! If it serve its purpose well, what's the point?  ::)
