Bass Tournament
« on: January 10, 2011, 08:23:24 AM »
There was a bass tournament last week at Lake Conroe just north of Houston.  The winning 5 fish limit weighed over 45 lbs. :o :o :o
It was 2 person teams allowed 5 fish.  one of the guys caught 2 bass over 10 lbs. on back to back cast.
This is my lake where I'm lucky to catch one 2 pounder. :-\ :P
Go to this website to see pictures of the fish.
Savage .250, if you're out there even you can't call these fish dinks. :D

http://www.lakeconroefishingguides.com/Fishing_Report/fishing_report.html

The best I ever heard of was the bass pro Alton Jones.  He caught a 5 fish limit from Falcon Lake in South Texas that was over 50 lbs.

Kevin Van Dam took a really nice brusier size bass here in my area off Lake Lewisville, to win the tournament that was held here.  This lake is old and not especially known for healthy population of large Bass.  But they are here in some numbers.  A few of the Fellas on the Blue Collar Bass Tournament series held here all through the summer usually manage to take a few nice ones every friday night through the summer months.  This summer while working the marina all night I even manage to take a few from around the docks just before sun up after getting off work myself, proving there here, you just got to catch them.

5 fish totalling 45 pounds, 2 of them over 10 pounds each on a back to back cast is a lot of sushi and one heck of a day out on the water!!!

I fished Falcon once about 14 months ago.  That's where I found that 10 lb. 5 oz. bass with a 1 lb. tilapia stuck in its mouth.  It was very cool. 8)
We did okay at Falcon but its about 6 hours from here and there is almost no place to stay.  We had to camp in some small shelters at the State Park.
That's where the Mexican pirates shot that guy on his jet ski last Fall.  His wife got away.
Here is a cool report on Falcon Lake.

Thanks for the link. Falcon sure gives up some really nice bass.  The guy that put the 15 lb .63 ounce(r)  back is
   a true BASSER!
Those are the type of bass we get from The Stick Marsh and the big "O."

  You can bet everybody was using a ...................bait-caster.    :D :D :D :D :D

Planning a trip to the big "O" April or May.   4 guys, 2 boats.  Side bets  on who does what.   I`ve already got the money spent!    ;D ;D ;D

Zulu:

The Big "O" is ................Lake Okeechobee.   Kind of an oval. Shallow. When the wind wipes up, it can get like the north atlantic. Nasty!   It`s about 32 miles long and 31 miles wide, as per the corp of engineers.  Look up a map of the lake. It will give you a better idea of how big the place is.
This is not the place for a small boat.  Unless your fishing the rim-canal.

The Stick Marsh is a place even you could catch a hog or 2.     Look it up.    On second thought, maybe not.  ;D

You really need to expand your fishing areas .  Stop fishing the retention pond behind your trailer and try the one next to your local Wal-Mart.   :D :D :D :D

Hi Guys,

Good to see you'll are up and at it - all excited about bassin.  I also see somethings never change.....

Savage is still the president of the Razz-berry Club.

Zulu a 10 pounder would make the papers big time in North Indiana.  I'm sure they exist but they aren't all over the place.  I'm planning on taking a couple of days off in March to fish after ice out.   I'm also looking forward to seeing pictures of the big one Zulu - caught on spinning gear!

I still share some of the pictures from last years posts on "went fishing today".

Looking forward to the coming season - take care.   BT

Did not do too well at Somerville.  7 hours of fishing = one 1 lb. bass.
My wife got skunked.
Must have been 200 boats on the lake.  All you could do was get in line and work down the same shoreline that 20 other boats had just worked.
Very discouraging! :(

Today, Gibbons Creek reservoir.  7 hours of fishing, = 1 one pounder and one two pounder.  The wife got skunked again.  If I don't put her on fish soon there will be a problem. :o
Water temp was 65 degrees.  It was a really nice day.

"What ever happened to this fishing trip?"     I posted (last post on...Went out today) a tad about the trip earlier this morning.  As soon as the cordite smoke clears out of your single wide trailer,  check it out.  Surley you
have a fan in the bathroom(the one run off an extention cord) to make that happen.       ;D

I was a serious tournament fisherman for many years, starting back in the mid-sixties and finally calling it quits in 2001.  I fished all over Texas, N.M., OK, LA, and MS. I tried to fish a tournment someplace every week-end.  I must say the best fishing was in Texas.  Most every Texas lake was stocked with the Florida strain bass beginning in the late sixties-early seventies.  When Texas Parks and Wildlife stopped the program in the early 80’s many local bass clubs took over the rearing ponds and with the support of TP&W had Florida strain sows flown each spring and mated them with native bass.  The fry were stocked in the local lakes.  I help with the stocking of most every lake with-in a 100 mile radius of Abilene.  Today it is not uncommon to have Lake records set in the 13-15 pound range.  OH Ivy has produced fish over 15 pounds, Lake Sweetwater, Hubbard Creek, Leon, Proctor, Brownwood and Coleman have produce 12-13 pound class fish on a regular basis. I feel quite sure there are much larger bass in some of these lakes.

Yes my friend, fishing in Texas is very good, and no matter where you live there is a lake nearby that will produce one for you.  The best time for a big fish is January-February, but they are caught year round.  Remember, slow down and fish all the cover very thoroughly, it will pay off.

Sad note…………my ole Skeeter 175 Starfire is setting in the back yard with four flats, the tarp is torn and the carpet is likely gone.  Almost makes me want to cry, but health problems have prevented my taking care of it as I once did. :( :( :(

Fishing "T`s" is fun and costly!    Fished with one of my son`s   for many years.  He`s a top flight bass-man,plus a fun guy to be around.  As you know having a good partner is job one.
Like you, we`ve cut back some. Seems like the older you get , the more the HOT sun beating down on you takes it`s toll.  Nothing like an August sun to bake your brain.  Worse yet when your having ," one of those days."

Hope you health issues can be corrected  and you can get the " Skeeter" back in service.   :)
