Using the same rules and methods of 1980 to determine inflation.  It ran 9.6% last year.  The Obama adiminstration said it was 2-3%.  Current rules include home prices, but do not include fuel and groceries because they are too "volitile" and "subject to seasonal changes".  87% of Americans drive to work and to buy what they need.  Only 13% walk, ride a bike, or use public transportation, and that is mostly in large cities.  Everyone has to eat.  Food prices take a double wammy.  Transporting food to market is one because of high fuel prices.  MANDATED use of ETHYNOL made from ANIMAL FEED corn is another.  90% of all corn was used for animal feed, 10% was for human consumption.  So, using corn for fuel drives up the cost of MEAT and EGGS before they are even transported.  Big agriculture corporations like this, just like big oil.  We need to be using more natural gas for fuel, drilling more here, building pipelines, etc, to bring down fuel prices, and no mandated ethynol.  Everything would go down and stabilise.  More people would go back to work.

Algae oil is more productive per acre than corn, but it costs $4 per gallon to make into fuel, BEFORE the road taxes.  WHEN oil gets higher to drill and sell and algae becomes less expensive, THEN we can make algae oil.  Free market will switch on its on eventually.  I think it costs about that much to make coal into fuel also.  We have an 800 year supply, but not cost effective to coal gasify yet.  Oil companies will be the ones making the fuel anyways when it becomes cost effective.  Still cheaper to drill and/or buy from overseas.  Natural gas is $1.85 per gallon equivelant, so it is already in the ball park if oil prices don't come down.

Paid $3.92 in Jacksonville, FL yesterday.  Diesel is $4.19.  When Obummer was elected, it was $1.79 per gallon.     remember the math when you go to the polls.  Vote GOP in November.

Not that I want to be fair or nice to Obama, but in 2008, while Bush was president, it hit over $4 nationally during the summer. Then it mysteriously and inexplicably plunged during the election season to about $1.80, and then it mysteriously and inexplicably has been rising to about $4 since.

Gasoline prices are ultimately controled by:
1)  the world price per barrel of oil,
2)  inflation
3)  demand by China and India for more fuel for their growing economies.
4)  situation in the middle east
What do we have now?
1) Iran threatening to cut off oil or the Strait of Hormuz
2) Inflation which is running 9-10%
3) Still growing demand in China and India
4) We are not drilling our own, onshore on government land, offshore, and no pipeline building which would affect world oil prices.  If the Muslim nations see we are serious about drilling our own, then they would lower their prices to keep us from doing so.
$0.60 to $0.80 of the price of per gallon is probably due to inflation. From $1.80 when Obama took office that make it run about $2.50-$2.60 with inflation.  The remainder is due to the other factors.  With serious drilling and pipeline construction, we could get it back down to below $3.00 because we would send a message.

Well, it's up around $4.19 up here in the PNW.  They blame it on some kind of outage at one of the refineries in this state.  The problem is that in this part of the state, we don't get our gas from that refinery.  California's prices also went up while most of the rest of the country went down.  Again, they conveniently shut down two refineries in the Bay Area at the same time for maintenance.  Isn't it amazing how this all happens, just when the price of oil drops.  No one will make me believe that coincidence has anything to do with it.

Guys not everyone knows where everyone lives.

When posting prices can you try to remember to also post the state your in?  If you don't want to list your home town fine maybe lost the county you bought in?

I was happy to find reg unleaded for $3.73 in CT on the shore. Around my home it's mid 3.80's.

It's been fluctuating from day to day, but trend has been downward. Lowest recent price was 3.45, which lasted about a day before it went back up to 3.67. Price of diesel has dropped in some places from 3.99 to 3.77.

Conan when you started this thread, everyone was complaining about gas getting over $3.00/gallon.  As long as Obama is in office it will never go below $3 unless we go back into another recession, which is looks like we are headed for.  If the pipelines and drilling resumed it would probably go back to $2.50.

The refinery at Cherry Point in Washington got back on line, so our local stations raised their prices again.  The cheap stations went to between $4.15 and $4.19; the higher priced stations are up as high as $4.39.  The oddball is that one Shell station lowered theirs to $4.05.  Right across the street a Chevron station put theirs at $4.19  This is what passes as a gas war these days.

Here in PA I paid $3.299 yesterday (6-5). Price has been all over the place since it started to drop. Often the difference among prices is almost 30¢.

Trend is downward in Minnesota. Hovering around $3.45 for regular and $3.85 for diesel.

Reporting is that it's a demand issue. The demand is down because of the down economy.

One station in town actually dropped below $4.00 ($3.99) a couple of days ago.  This is the same Shell station that was the first to drop their price.  The odd thing is that this station normally is not one with lower prices.  The cheaper stations are being very reluctant to drop their prices.  So now that the damage is done, one of our Senators is threatening an investigation into possible gouging.  Nothing will come of that.

I went to the Marathon where I always stop and saw the 99 and hung the pump back up, crap, it's higher. Then I noticed that the 1st number was a 2, yep, $2.99. Here it's $3.33 today. The same Shell station is leading the way with $3.69 per gallon.  I think the other stations in town would like to hang the guy.  This is in southwest Washington State.
