The price is still headed in the right direction here in the Northwest.  It was $3.15 without the discount at Safeway, yesterday.

I'm sure I'm not the only guy to notice that when the price goes down, it drops a couple of cents at a time, and it takes weeks, to drop a nickle or a dime, but when it goes up, it jumps a nickle or a dime in a day or two.

Around here the cheapest (ethanol added) seems to be hovering at about $2.95-96.
The all gas prices are around $3.05, just about enough for people to buy the cheap stuff.

It has to do with Canada's extremely high gas taxes.

May be $5 this summer.  Inflation, that the government doesn't say exists, coupled with no pipeline to bring in new oil from Canada and North Dakota.  No new drilling offshore, no drilling on any government land anywhere.  Then the Arabs are raising the price, speculation about Iran closing the Persian Gulf, which cuts off 20% of the worlds oil supply.

Gas has gone up 40 cents a gallon, diesel 10 cents in the last couple of months here. Oil price is still basically unchanged. It goes up a little, comes down a little. No reason for the increase except they can.

Saw a prediction fron an industry analyist yesterday saying that the price of gas should decrease this year. Analists don't have a good track record in predicting what will happen in the oil and gas industry.

The energy industry in the Permian Basin which produces 20% of the nation's domestic production is alive and doing quite well. Little Hobbs, NM set a record for gross tax receipts in November. Their cut of the state's gross receipt tax was 5.75 million dollars.  :o  That's for one month in a town of about 33,000 people.

I went to town this afternoon. Diesel jumped 20 cents to 3.99.9 since Friday. I may forego that trip to northern NM this summer. Colorado was already out because of the stress of driving that far.

I've traded at the same station for many years. Good gas and the price of gas is the same everywhere plus I get a discount from this company. No ethanol until about a month ago when "contains ethanol" stickers appeared on all the gas pumps.  :(
