Need taller front sight for my 45/70 Encore barrel
« on: January 04, 2011, 03:57:40 AM »
I have a 45-70 Encore barrel that shoots great but high.

With the rear sight adjusted down as low as it will go I am still about 10" high at 25 yards.

I have tried adjusting loads with little success.

I even replaced the rear sight with a peep sight but the results were the same.

Do they make a taller front sight?

I have used Williams front sights on my TCR barrel and they seem to be pretty standard dovetail mounting to the front ramp.  I have not done this with an Encore barrel (different ramp), but it is likely that the front sights are of a standard dovetail dimension.  Check out the Williams catalog about page 17 and 18.

Mine is not dove tailed but screwed on like the rear sight.

There are different t/c front sight heights. I swapped a buddy mine off an Encore .50 cal for his that came on a Triumph or Omega. Don't think his was tall enough. Anyway, they are out there.

Just spoke to T/C and they are sending out a new taller front sight free of charge. But it did cost me $360 in the end.

While I had him on the phone I asked him about the custom shop and he said it was still closed and had been put on hold until after the move and did not know if it would ever open back up.
So I asked about the stainless and gold trimmed Encore frame I had been admiring on the WEB and he had one in stock.
