Only a foot of snow? Guess you are one of the lucky ones.
Look for the trails the mink are making in the snow, a body gripper will take them in the trails. You can also try baited cubbies or boxes.

Also besides what Boggy said, set bottom edge sets thru the ice.  Besides hunting in woods   they live under the snow  and ice alot as that is where the food is.   Ive seen big buck mink hunt grey squirrels in open woods during the winter but not too often as they are vunerable from preditors too then.  The bottom edge set will be working and you will catch rats also.

Just read an article in Jan issue of FUR FISH GAME on mink boxes. The author described how to build them out of 1x6 cedar boards using a rat trap on the inside. I don't do much trapping only for the occasional "Garden Grizzly" but thought I would pass this info on.

Good Luck

 A rat trap is ok for weasel,but not mink.Use a 110,120,160 or a #1 or #1 1/2 for mink.

Perhaps I can get some box design ideas, thank you. I have some 110s and #1s and #1 1/2s

I have tried to build a couple of boxes but have no skills.

Bog is this blizzard hitting you too?

If you don't like the "box work", go to YouTube and type in "mink cubby". They make them out of 4" PVC. Looks easy/fast.

Marten trappers use those square plastic newspaper tubes, one manufacturer even advertises in the National Trapper.  I wonder if they would work for mink? Need to secure them in case there's a thaw.
