Winter storm of 2010
« on: December 26, 2010, 08:33:12 AM »
I had to move to South Eastern Virginia from Central North Caroilna last year. I have been told that it rarley snows here........ We have 12" right now and it is still snowing. The last time I was in snow like this was when I lived in Spokane back in 99'. The good thing here is that when it snows, everything shuts down. HAPPY NEW YEAR

I hear you ! I lived in Spokane from '88 to '04, so I know what you are talking about. How about Ice Storm ? Minus 30 temps on occasion, snow so deep that only the top of barbed wire fence posts still stick up above the snow. We had to shovel trails to the firewood shed and pump house that were 5-6 feet deep, making it really hard to keep them clear.

Last winter I lived in Portland OR, famous for rain but not snow. Nonetheless, the city was shut down for a week with 2 feet of snow. No body was prepared for it (except me cuz I have the Spokane studded tires in winter habit), even the city !

This year I am living on an island in the Puget Sound, and even here, around turkey day, we had a foot or more of snow for 3-4 days.

Maybe the snow likes us, and keeps following us around...maybe it's global warming !?!

Yep here in Central N.Y. we haven't seen 12" of snow since last year. There are some places that have gotten that much from lake effect this year but not us. My nephew texted me a picture from Cottontown Tenn. His kids had their 1st white Christmas. I asked him when the last time was he had snow on the ground. He said it had been 15 years. There are a couple ski resorts in VA. so snow can't be to awful rare.

Snowing here in CT now..

Forecast is for 12" by mid day Monday.  Not too cold, mid twenties. Its been snowing since mid morning and not dur to stop till this time Monday.

Been lucky here too, two or three Lil storms no real accumulations. I do get to use my ATV and Plowfor the first time!

We got snow flurries down here outside of Waycross Jawja this mornin!  :o :o    I know it aint nothin compared to what you got up Nawth, but it sure is a rare event down South ways.  Didn't really stay on the ground very long, but it was snow!

Well I was out at 5:30 this morning and cleaned up about 2' of snow.  I'm looking out my window now and can't see the house next door with the wind and snow.  Everything is closed down for the day, but I still have to work.  Actually this is typical for a New England winter storm.  Nothing out of the normal for winters here. If you can survive a New England winter you can survive winter anywhere. Oh well got to get back to work.  Lots of snow to move before I can go home and do it all over.

We are getting some snow here today maybe an 1 1/2" -2" on the ground temp dropped real fast yesterday afternoon went from 27 to 14 real quick. Didn't quite make it to single digits last night, I was up at about 4:30 and it was 12 out. If it was about 10 degrees warmer and less wind I would get out and do some rabbit hunting.
