Flextech stock??
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:40:55 PM »
Is there that much difference in the recoil to justify the added cost? Want to mount a 20ga slug barrel on my encore.

I don't know this for sure but I do have a flex tech stock and it does reduce recoil but I would imagine you would get most of the recoil reduction by just putting a limbsaver recoil pad on your current stock.  Again, I'm not sure how much the other stuff helps.  JMHO.

Thanks, I don't have a stock for the Encore yet or barrel for that matter. It's a 460 pistol now and want to use it as a 20ga slug gun.

I have a PH 20ga slug barrel and I sure felt the recoil. I have a Boyd's thumb hole stock which adds a bit of weight compared to the regular Encore stock but after 5-6 shots it was painful to continue. This was while sighting it in and finding what slugs work best for the barrel. After a few times to the range I got tired of getting beat up and I decided to look for one (I got it here from jobyjob, great transaction). I installed it and went through 4-5 boxes of slugs at the range and never felt a thing. I would have paid 2-3 times more for it had I known how much better it felt. Keep an eye out here and you will find one at a reasonable price. Good Luck.

I started out shooting factory walnut stock & forend on my Encore.  Next...installed a limbsaver....next a thumbhole laminated set w/ limbsaver.  I now use a Flextech stock and forends....period!  Now, I admit to becoming a little whimpy in my seniority, but I never was very sensitive(just ask the ex's) to recoil.  I used to loudly proclaim that I was strickly a blue steel and walnut guy and would not have any of that senthetic crap on my gun.  Well..... :-[
Bottom line...get a Flextch and don't look back....light to carry(again for us olds guys), and cuts recoil by a significant(no idea how they come up with all those numbers) amount. ;D
