300 ACC blackout
« on: December 16, 2010, 11:43:44 AM »
New catridge, looks interesting as CXP 2 & 1 game getter. 223 necked up to .308, (7.62X35.) Goes from 110 Vmax up to 220 grain subsonic. It apparently duplicates/copies the 300 whisper. Heard from a source that it thumps deer very well. The big selling point would be if it catches on with the big three catridge companies. Round was made to perform from short barrels, (9.5 and up.) Plenty of info on it if you google. Sounds like it's made for my G2!

I'm not sure if this is the same situation, but the .223 was necked up to 30cal many years ago.  Elgin Gates spoke of it in his book on Metallic Silhouette circa 1980.  It never caught on widely but the 7mm T/C U. did.

I don't think it'll do anything more than the 300 whisper, or even as good as a 7mm tcu,  but if it catches on with the public and ammo companies it will be a great.

I used to shoot an XP100 rebarreled for .223 x .30 cal way back in the '80's. It's been around for a long time.

I hope you mean in terms of sales or popularity not power?

Ya. I don't reload so I'm limited to what the factory puts out. My buddy swears by this round and I'd like to see it do well if it's all it's made out to be. The 6.8mm is a mild shooter and had great potential as a hunting round for deer on down to yotes but it hasn't caught on and the ammo isn't available or cheap.

From what I've read, it's a "standardized" version of the 300 Whisper.  Not sure if the cartridges will interchange with the 300 Whisper, but they look to have the same measurements. Like someone said, maybe the industry will latch onto it and we'll be able to get  cheap brass without having to make it ourselves.
