Well it was a pretty good walk into get my beaver sets out, GPS logged it at 1.3 mile hike. It is supposed to snow tonight and I didn't want to walk in any bigger drifts. I guess it would have been a good idea to have snowshoes but I don't own any and have never used them. So I humped it through the snow average in depth about mid shin. I walked around most all the deeper drifts except the big one close to the truck and one right before I got on the ice. Snow was hard in places but not hard enoguh to get on top so it was just plow on. Did pretty good going in pulling the sled stopped maybe twice, as I never learned how to walk slow. Chopped the ice out around the trap where I caught the 48lb 12 oz male beaver and whala! Same set held a HUGE Beaver at least it felt that way time I pulled it and the traps in the sled back to the truck. After pulling the sled back up the hill to the field and huff puffing across the field. I swore that beaver would weigh in at 100lbs who knew he could loose half that much weight on the way home LOL! I did stop more on the walk back out and I didn't bother to count how many times. Just told myself it's ok to stop your old LOL!
The beaver was a female and weighed in at 50lbs 2oz. I didn't catch any beavers on the baited set next to the feed pile. So my guess is there was just the pair. In the past when I've set up like this usually take the small guys by the feed pile. Bigger ones farther out on a run or some other set up like these two.
So anyway I'm done for now with all traps picked up, at least till I see something that catches my eye.
Here is a pic of todays beaver
