I have a North Manufacturing Broughton .224 -14 twist barrel on one of my benchrest rifles.  Also, will be installing a 6.5-8 twist barrel on a Bat action when the action comes in.  Tim North shot his first 1000 yard match at this years NBRSA 1000 yard nationals and won the light gun stage.  He may have won the two gun as well, but don't remember for sure.  He was shooting one of his 6.5-8 twist barrels.

Hi, I'm planning on building a 6.5-06 and will shoot 140 gr. bullets exclusively. What twist would be preferred for this scenario. I notice the Shilen barrels in Brownells only come with a 9 twist. I only want to do this once so I don't want to make any mistakes. Thanks, Roger.

Anywhere from an 8 to a 9 twist should work just fine with this bullet weight. I shoot several 6.5-284's with Shilen, Krieger, and Hart barrels in these twists out to 1000 yds. Most of the folks use the 8 or 8.5 twist, but my most accurate barrel was a Hart in 9 twist.
