Thinking about being a Handi-Rifle...help needed
« on: December 14, 2010, 03:33:57 PM »
Ok guys, I'm thinking about purchasing a new H&R Handi-Rifle in .270 I believe. I have been reading various reviews and I'm seeing several negative reviews about these guns not shooting very well. Out of the box, what steps do I need to take in order to get this rifle to shoot pretty well? The one I'm looking at buying is either going to be the wood stock, or synthetic, both of them will be the standard barrel, not the heavy barrel.

With choosing the .270, what kind of load should I try? I've always prefered 130 grains. Are there any factory loads that you guys have had success with? What about hand loads? I prefer some sort of ballistic tip as well, in factory loads, I have always had good success with the Winchester Supreme stuff and I'd like to find a factory load if possible, but if not, I can have some loaded up.

Thanks in advance guys.

If you start with the FAQ's in the stickies at the top of the page you'll find a mind-boggling amount of info on handi's.  There is a fix for almost every problem you might have or could dream up.  I'm a new handi owner and I love to tinker so.....here I am.  I would call these guys the foremost authorities on these fine rifles.  I haven't found a fix that a normal guy with some mechanical knowledge and this site couldn't do to a handi.  I'm already plotting for my next purchase!

I'm not much help on the .270 though, it's a caliber that has never interested me too much for some reason.
Which lie got to you so that you refuse Him???

It seems like the only ones who post are those complaining. but for every one complaining theres a thousand rifles out there with happy owners. I currently have 10 H&Rs, all but one have been trouble free. and the problem with the one was owner inflicted [by Me]. each one has taken a little experimentation to get the most out of, but thats part of the fun. Good luck DR
