My first H&R!!! scope mounting questions
« on: December 14, 2010, 02:30:07 PM »
Ok so my I got a .308 "survivor" special ordered from Wal-Mart for $260, I got to take a look and make sure everything was in order before it was put under the tree ,not to be seen again until Christmas. After a lot of research I ordered this Mueller scope last night:
http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Mueller_Tactical_4_5_14x40AO_APT_p/mt451440.htm

I was wondering what rings/mount you guys would use for this rifle. I want it to be pretty low( the lower mounts look more appealing to me) but I have no experience with these guns, and I don't want it to interfere with the hammer obviously.

I had another question as well, I plan to order this stock:

But I don't know anything about how the stock mounts to the receiver. And I was wondering if there is anything that would interfere with me installing this (A Model):

Thanks in advance guys, Kevin

Yes welcome. The first thing to do is to look over the FAQ's at the top of this section. You'll find a lot of information there. You might also find the replacement stocks you're looking for on the classified section instead of buying new.

We all started out not knowing much about Handi's so ask what you need to.

I lurked here for awhile before posting, and I did read the FAQs, but unless I missed it I cannot find the information I am looking for :( . Basically, what mount is best for use with a 40mm scope, and does the method by which the stock attaches to the receiver prohibit me from drilling holes through the stock to install a karsten cheek rest?

and thanks for the warm welcome guys!

Welcome! There's an entire section in the FAQs on bases, see RINGS in that section, here's a direct link, please use Ctrl f to search the page, it makes it real easy to find most anything you're looking for.  ;) Stock bolt info can be found in the FAQs also.

Yes, you should be able to drill holes to mount the cheek rest. The stock bolt doesn't come far enough back from the receiver to be a problem. That stock is for open sights, so you will need the added height of the cheek rest.
