You yankees might as well stay north for a while, at least until your weather leaves us. Wind chill here in my part of Ga. was below 0 this morning, with 20-30 mph. winds. I spent the morning thawing out some diesel spotter tractors and such and about froze my hinder parts off.

We just ain't equipped for sho' nuff' cold here. If the snow that fell had accumulated, it would have shut everything down a day or more. No plows here. No salt or sand to speak of. Nobody who knows how to drive in the snow.

I'm thinking though that if you got off in the woods and built a fire, you could just lasso the deer when they stopped by to warm up!

Pete if you end up hunting in your shorts and shirtsleves you better post a pic with one of those deer you are gonna shoot. And I bet your 45-70 would love to line up on one of gendocs hogs.... But you are going to have to practice typeing with a bit of a southern tinge. And start using a "ya'll" now and then. That way if'n you git there or not we'uns woulda thought you were there anaway.

You like Beer and salt- that was a good one. but better watch out if you find a bunch of saucers full of beer in the garden, they will be expectin to find you belly up in one the next mornin.

Keep warm every body. -22 this morning here in MN, thank goodness the wind was very light. There are trucks parked out on the lake now by the fish shacks..... That means the ice is supposed to be over a foot thick. Some don't check and then they get to remove the truck from the bottom of the lake.

Cold and snow in the south is nasty. As you say, nobody is prepared for it. The state and country road departments don't have plows, sand or salt. I'm wondering what this has done to your agricultural crops.

It's not a heck of a lot colder here. I think I'd still like to come to Waycross and sit a couple of days in the Okefenokee. A line out for bass and brim...catfish later.... and a Handi for deer and hogs...might be too late for deer....could lay back and sleep too. That's a gracious country.....met some lovely women there in my younger years

Better leave that alone. Patty, ya know.

Ben the A.H.s arround here forget how to drive over the summer. With the first two inches of winter snow, they're all lined up in the ditch. We got some serious cold in Florida when I lived there and the well and pressure pump was outside. I always worried about frozen water lines. Now, living in the Arctic North, that's routine. I've got the water heater on in the meat room in the barn and the water on too expecting more venison. When that's done it's all shut off and drained for the Winter.......Here, Winter = Labor day - Memorial Day.

Here in Central N.Y. we had mid 40s and rain on Sunday and this morning it was cold enough that the dogs didn't want to go out. They should change our state motto to " Welcome to New York, don't like the weather? Wait a minute"

I spent October and November in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Florida temp was in the 80s, I was sweating constantly. My friends that live there are so used to it they did not have the A/C on. Could not handle it so I rode my bike to Tennessee through Georgia. Saw a Deer lying on the side of the road down near Valdosta, not much bigger than my Beagle.

As for cold, it's -35 this morning and I went out looking for Varmits. Did not go far, leg went numb after about 1/2 mile, so I had to go back to the truck. Tomorrow I'll take the snowmachine. Not able to do any walking anymore. We've got six inches of snow over a solid layer of ice. Slick can hardly walk on it. You keep slidding and fall down fast.

Your talking about fishing in Florida reminded me of an experience I had in East Texas a while back. I was fishing with my last frog when a snake swam up and took my frog in his mouth. I reeled him in but he would not let go that frog! I grabbed him behind the head and squeezed till he opened his mouth and dropped my frog but now what was I going to do with a mad snake? I reached into my vest pocket and took out a flask with Jack Daniels in it and poured it into his mouth and when he finally shut it, I tossed him over into the grass. I went back to fishing and in a few minutes felt something brush up against my leg. When I looked down, there was that same snake and this time he had brought me 2 more frogs!!

When I left the house this morning it was 32 degrees at 0130. By 0430 when I got to Ocala it was down to 20 degrees. Y'all are right about our deer. It's like shootin a dog.

Whitetails? What's a whitetail? We got some fair-sized black eared jackrabbits that might get as big as a whitetail. Still chasing one of them elusive Jackalopes. Seen tracks, but no critters yet.
In-laws have whitetails that mosey over from the Snake River bottoms, and eat outta their haystacks near Roberts, Idaho. Boys busted a 5X5 last year that I hear was a 'big' one. Had to hustle to get it out of the hide and cooled down before they lost the meat. You only get one, though. Short range weapons area, meaning shotgun with buck or slug, muzzleloader .45 or bigger, or centerfire handgun with straight walled cartridge originally designed for a handgun, meaning, bring that .460 or .500 on out. We'll be talking to them this year about handgun cartridges in carbines and rifles at the town hall F&G rules input meetings. Might get some use out of the little .45 Cowboy gun after all.

By the way, there's some fair sized Mule Deer in there, too, as well as speed goats, some elk once in awhile, and the occasional moose, coyotes, and several wolves.......just 'member to NOT dress like Grizzle Bear bait!

I put new glass on the Handi Maxi a few days ago, boresighted it, but the wind hasn't let down enough for me to try to hit anything with it. I did shoot the 55 gal. burn barrel, but didn't smack it as I should have. It's hard to shoot shiverin' n' shakin', rockin' back and forth. Oh well, only 4 more months of this.

Hey Frgerald. This Yankee Dumbass was fishing in Florida and deliberately dropped a plug past a Moccasin and foul hooked him.....now, what do you do with a P.O.ed snake on the end of your rod?? Not learning from that one, I dropped a bucktail on the far side of big stingray in the Indian River. That was fun too.

Somehow, I survived my youth.

Well fella's it's warmed up nicely over the last couple days. Right now at 10:00 pm on Friday night it's about 48 degrees here with just a breeze. After the last couple weeks I find this very pleasant. It will be nice to spend an hour or two in a deer stand without having to brush ice off my eyelash's. Ya'll come on down. Our season ends Jan. 1'st in the northern zone of Ga., but just down the road it stays in until Jan 15. Up here we have fair sized white tails. Down south they have 80# 8 points....but they still eat pretty good.....
