Huntsman..have question
« on: December 11, 2003, 08:24:45 AM »
I was reading your post on the machete you made and it sounds just like the ticket I need.. My question is .... Did you or did you have to put any temper on the edge after grinding in order for it to hold an edge ??
We use them for corn / tobacco knives along with clearing trails / shooting lanes and I have seen the cheap ones wrap around a heafty stalk of corn !!  very agravating  :x  But it doesnt make sense to go pay big bucks for one either for hard use around the farm if ya know what I mean.  Thanks

No, I didn't put a temper on the blade, although I suppose I could have pretty easily. I haven't needed it, though. It has cut through 1" diameter branches and both a hog vertebra and a large deer vertebra and has not even a nick to show for it.

I worked for four years on a corn/bean farm in Missouri, and you could cut cornstalks all day with this baby, no sweat. Of course this machete is pretty heavy, so YOU might get sweaty, but that's a different story altogether.... 8)

I'm still trying to get some pictures uploaded on Hunt101.com, but the site isn't cooperating right now. I'll post them separately if I can get them on.

Thanks  for the info... I have seen a lot of that type of steel in places like home depot but figured it was pretty useless for something like a machete :-)   very interesting indeed
