They are asking for it for reloading components now, not just powder and primers.

I don't like it either. We have to go through a background check to get the card then when we try to buy a firearm there's a waiting period and another background check.

Just another way for them to tax us.

It might be because of Chicago/cook county. >:(

I ordered ammo one time and they didn't want to ship it to me because I live in cook county, buI'm not in Chicago so they eventually sent it through after I sent them a copy of my FOID.

you have to present a foid for just about anything that goes boom, and even a few things that don't.  Most places will card you for buying M/L sabots and powder,  and there was a store that got busted for selling a bb gun to an undercover state cop,  so you have to have a foid for bb guns as well.

Even though the fee is nominal, 15 bucks and it's good for ten years, it's just a backdoor way to tax us. If I buy a gun I still have to have a background check so what's the point of the card?

just another way for idiot congress men to try and control us,  and it doesn't really help anything, but causes headaches for us that follow the law, while the criminals are still getting guns and ammo off the street and killing innocent law abiding  citizens

I had a similar occurrence with Sptsmn Guide when buying or attempting to buy a knife. They would not sell to me. There is no restrictions here in CT but they think that there is. They just don't care to update, research and correct there regs that don't need my business.

Actually, now that I think about it, what is the point of a FOID card?  If they do background checks and have waiting periods, what is the point?  It makes zero sense.  I could see if the point was the issue it once for one background check which would reduce the future costs of numerous background checks, but alas we live in the communist state of IL where anyone south of Chicago is considered a bunch of rednecks.
