2010 IL Deer Hunt
« on: November 15, 2010, 01:08:57 AM »
O.K. guys. I'm coming down this Thursday for some deer hunting on a friend's lease. I'll start packing in a day or 2. I have one either sex tag & 2 anterless tags. I may make it for the 2nd season so no rush to fill the tags. My gun of choice is a tricked out Knight shooting B209. I may take a slug gun just for the heck of it,maybe someone else will need a backup. It's a fairly heavy QDM property, so I can't be shooting any bucks unless my heart skips a beat upon sighting him. I like to keep an eye out for the coyotes also when in position, 2 bagged last year. Good luck to all, don't be falling out of the tree stand!

Regulations read And/Or...Shotgun and/or Muzzleloader and/or handgun. All three if one wishes to lug them out there.

Also note that the unfilled regular season permit can be used in the muzzleloader season and the late season. This gives one four different times to hunt (read four diff seasons-not just day's) which came in handy last year with the flooding here and the standing corn there.

You can carry all three should you so desire. Any legal hunting arm may be carried during firearm season. This excludes the second week of muzzleloader season though, that's smokepoles only. The first week of muzzleloader coincides with the second firearm season so anything legal can be carried.

Got back Sunday eve. My buddy  & I bagged these with the muzzle-loader. I also took a doe. My buck flipped right into a small stream, 20 yards after my shot. It was not to difficult to fish out. I should be able to go down in early Dec to burn up a few anterless tags.

Unfilled permits can be used in counties with Late Winter season for A/O Deer.  Unfilled Firearms permit can not be used in 2nd half of muzzleloader season- with the exception being landowner permits which can be filled with a muzzleloader only then.  ILHunter

Yep, mine was brought up as a general guide line, always good to read the regulations in it's entirety.

Gearing up again to go down tomorrow. I only have 2 days to hunt & a few anterless tags. The weather seems to be O.K. in the forecast.

I'm back. I got 4 anterless & a coyote. This was pvt land with high deer numbers & the farmer wanted at least a bunch gone. The others took similar numbers. As I left Friday eve the weather was turning crummy, snow & slippery roads. I was thankful to have my Blizzacks installed. Anyhow here's the outcome of my 50 yrd shot at one of the 2 coyotes I saw.

There was a 200+inch non typical taken around Old York with a bow. I have seen photos but have no way of posting them here yet.

I did save one anterless tag that I may try to use on the 14-16 Jan anterless hunt. I may not be able to make it but have it just in case. My buddy has one or 2 left also.

Check your regulations 1sourdough,

I read the Late Season-Anterless Only-(handgun, muzzleloader, shotgun)

As being Dec 30-Jan 2 in addition to Jan 14-16

Congrats on your second season, you are on a roll and may as well fill that last permit!
