309 JDJ Trajectories?
« on: November 12, 2010, 03:30:21 PM »
I have a 14" Thompson rechamber by ssk industries to 309 JDJ w/hunter style barrel and am loading 52 gr of IMR 4350 with 165 gr. Nosler BT's.  I can't seem to find the ball park trajectories for various ranges.  Does anyone have them?

Thanks.

My load runs a 165 Nos. BT @2400fps. For my use, I sight it in 1 3/4" high @ 100 yds, which results in a dead on zero @ 150 yds., 1" low @ 175 yds., and 4" low @ 225 yds.
Try your load in your gun @ each distance to see what works for you.

P.S. If your load is in a Contender, and not an Encore, it sounds like a frame stretcher to me, FWIW.

I ran the numbers 165 Nosler BT @ 2300 FPS with a 200 yd zero. Almost 2000 Ft/lbs of energy @ 200 yds.

Trajectory for Nosler .308 dia. 165 gr. Ballistic Tip at 2300 Feet per Second

Ken's numbers for trajectory are dead on as I would have expected due to the fact he has been hunting with this caliber for years sucessfully.  I just ran them through the computer just to see what yours should be and they will be close to Ken's IN THEORY from a computer program.  You need to shoot them in your gun to make sure of course.  From the SSK load sheet, the 52 grains of 4350 is a max load for that powder with the 165 and shows a velocity of 2371 fps.
