Glock trigger upgrade???
« on: November 08, 2010, 03:08:55 PM »
I'm thinking of reducing my trigger pull on my glock. I am thinking of getting Scherer Connector Glock 3-1/2 lb and Glockworx Competition Spring Kit. The kit includes a heavier trigger spring, a lighter striker spring, and a lighter striker safety spring. Would this be all I need? I have read a lot of reviews on midway claiming that the connector alone wouldn't be enough for a lower trigger pull. So, I found the spring kit that people recommend. What is yalls opinion on this setup, or what else would you recommend?

Installing the 3.5# connector alone WILL reduce trigger pull. My expieraments have shown that it will take the letoff down to approx. 4.5lbs.

Here is what I suggest that you do. Go over to Glock Forum or Google ---> $.25 Trigger Job. Do it using a Dremmel Tool,a small felt wheel, and some polishing compound. Turn the Dremmel at the slowest speed. Do not let any part overheat. Do the new(3.5# ) connector while your at it. Put an extremely small ammount of grease(I use reel lube grease,or Tetra Gun) where the parts that you have just polished bare on each other. And a very small amount on the guide rails.

This will reduce the trigger pull weight and keep your Glock completely reliable. IMO the Glocks are so well designed,I do not have allot of faith on a bunch of aftermarket parts. ---pruhdlr

Glock pistols are quite serviceable as they are. IMO there is little to gain by lightning the trigger pull, and frequently the lighter striker spring causes misfires with some primers. However, Glocks can perform better in certain applications by tweaking and changing a few factory parts for aftermarket. I'm not one to buy into the "Perfection" hype that Glock has worked so hard to sell us. All my Glocks have a few aftermarket parts, some have several.
It's best to decide what the pistol will be used for, and modify it accordingly, verifying at each stage of the process reliability of the pistol. The modifications you mentioned, will certainly change the feel and operation characteristics of the pistol. You may love it! If not, it's easy and cheap to change. That's part of the fun in owning a Glock if you like to tinker!  Have fun, but keep it safe and reliable.

If this is a carry gun just leave it alone.

Couldn't have said it better, myself!  Exactly my own philosophy.  I don't build, 'range pistols'.  Everything I do with Glocks is for street carry and self-defense work.  I'm not going to tell you what to use - That's your business.  I will, however, tell you how I do it:  Everybody has a favorite connector.  The two that I've found most serviceable are from either Lone Wolf Distributors, or Ghost, Inc.  (In a pinch, I'll even use a standard factory 3.5# connector!)   ;D

If you do anything with the factory spring set, increase rather than decrease the weight of each spring. (Except, perhaps, the recoil spring)  I use Wolff, '+ power' Gunsprings.  The trigger pulls aren't all that light, typically 4.9 to 5.2#'s; but the break is very clean.  I take the slop out of a Glock's trigger by backing it up with a Lone Wolf, 'Ultimate Trigger Stop' that I set permanently in place with epoxy paste.

The final thing I do is to get rid of the factory's plastic recoil guide rod.  I replace it with a non-captured steel guide rod and spring from Wolff Gunsprings.  I, also, lubricate my Glock's slide and connector with a high-tech gun grease from Sentry Solutions.  All this does make a significant improvement in how your Glock will handle and fire.

A connector change will lower your pull weight.  I use Ghost Rocket 3.5# connectors, a NY1 spring, and stone and polish the mating surfaces.  This yields a nice, light, clean breaking pull in the 4-5# range.  I have tried other connectors and combinations, but this is the best carry trigger I have come up with.  3.5 is fine on a hunting handgun, but I feel it is too light on a carry gun. I use a very light coat of dry lubricant on the contact points.  Never grease or oil for carry.

I've gone through all the tricks and parts to get a better trigger, it was all just a waste of time and money that could have been spent on practice.
Once you master the stock Glock trigger pull it becomes very predictable and crisp. Lightening your springs and your connector reduces reliability and slows down your progress on learning the trigger.
